I have been in IVA since July last year. I am a single parent and was coping really well
Just recently had a bomb shell from my parents who provide regular child care whilst I work. Dad is suffering really I'll health at the moment and may lose his sight as a result they are not able to provide child care to the extent that they do. Will have to look for another job that's better suited ie a 9-5 job. Currently I work ridiculous hours throughout the night and weekends etc. therefore will now occur child care costs as my daughter doesn't start school nursery till September but been then will need child care hours. So what I will be able to afford will be dramatically reduced. I have reluctantly opened up to my mother and told her of my financial issues. Needless to say she is very upset with me. She has offered me 20k to offer as a full of final settlement. My debts are 32k
I have put this offer to my IP and awaiting responses.
Does anyone have any idea of how successful this will be
I cannot sleep with the stress and want this to be over with. Thanks

I think the offer of 20k on 32k of debt is more than acceptable!!How much were you expected to repay during the IVA?

Sorry that your Dad is having health issues.

Oh and welcome to the forum.

Welcome from me as well.

Agree with Paul that it sounds like an excellent offer.

I hope your dad improves, I know what it's like when parents are ill.

Hi all and thanks for replying. I'm paying £210 per month so over the terms of my iva would be paying about 13k back and 19k would be written off. So I thought the offer of 20k but would be better for my creditors and for me to get out if this horrid mess. Will keep you posted on what my IP says x

I think you could have got away with offering less, and your IP should really have directed you as to what was likely to be accepted by creditors.

Good luck and do keep us informed.

Hi J13hod. Welcome to the Forum. What a horrible time for you and your family. Sounds like you have an awful lot of stressors in your life. 20K offer is very good. I really hope you will all soon see an upturn in your health and finances. X

I think a F&F is a good solution here to allow you to move on. All the best to you and your parents. x

I made the offer to my IP on Friday and am now waiting patiently or rather impatiently for a response and guidance on what happens next I have only made 8 payments so far with the ninth due next week. If this is acceptable and a proposal is sen to my creditors. Does anyone know what happens next

Thanks
Jo

Lots of our posters have completed their IVA by way of F&F and will be along very soon to guide you through the process. All the best and hope you hear something soon.

I think that this is far too much for your parents to be offering - I would have thought an offer of more like £10k would be sufficient.

Hi Melanie. Thanks for that. Is this something my IP should suggest and then put the offer to the creditors? My mum wants me out of this mess ASAP so offered the 20k sum obviously if I don't have to offer that much would be great. I don't really want to take mums money but can see no other option at the moment thanks

I agree with Melanie that the offer is too high. £10k is enough and the other money could be needed should you find lower paid work or struggle to find a new job.

I am afraid that I do often get that feeling Claire.37 - but thank goodness we have the forum where even the experts can learn a thing or two from other posters and each other. Michael and I regularly chat about problems off-line as well as on-line and we both share the same views that it is our duty to ensure our respective clients are as well informed as possible, and that they have access to actual decisiom makers if necessary.
