Hi,

I left the armed forces in 2005, and I amassed some debt with various banks when I was 18, and slightly naive! I have tried to get an experian report for the last 2 years, but because I did not have a permanent address, they simply cannot help me. It has been nearly 5 years, and I just want to know what to do as I cant find the debt, but when applying for credit I am blankly refused. Will the IVA help me? It says that it will take 60 months, but that will be nearly 11 years if I do that. Is this is available option for me?

Hi Jordan

Can you be a bit more specific?

How many banks and how much money in total?

I note it's over 5 years since you took out the debts? If so, when did you last make any payments to them or receive any correspondence from them?

Hi, I have debts around the 10K mark, but since I was overseas for so long, I was never really sent any documentation, and every time I try to find out what I owe, experian cannot credit reference me. This is frustrating because everything I owe is in the name of a warship, which I lived on for 5 years! I do not know what my status is because there is literally no payments made, so I am assuming I am blacklisted?? If so, how long will this last?

An IVA is unlikely to be a viable option for you with so few debts. I rather suspect that the reason you are being declined credit is not to do with outstanding debts, but the fact that you have had so many different addresses over the last couple of years. I am ex-Armed Forces and we used to have that problem a lot.

Do you not remember details of the credit cards and loans you had taken out?
