i am at the end of my iva, all payments paid, i had £5000 (inheritance) and i had to sign a form that if i had any pip outstanding that too would go to DFD, i was expecting to get my certificate, however i received a letter that it will take up to 6 more months to finalize even though i have paid everything.
i phoned them to ask why
i waited over a week for a reply.
she told me this happens some times then she told me this happens most of the time.
she said i have paid everything and now i have to wait for them.
i asked if i won the lottery tomorrow, would the prize money be mine now....as i have paid the agreed amount and my inheritance ( which together means i paid back my debt in full!)..
and she said..... no...if you won the prize money would still come to us.
I am still unclear as to why i have to wait another 6 months. i have been paying for years and its not a surprise to them that its finished. i had the last payment date on my calendar. I feel cheated now. i was told by DFD that the £5000 doesnt even go towards my debt. it just gets taken by the company.
Have you any idea why DFD drag it out like this with no proper reason. its hardly fair is it?

Thanks.

The woman you have been speaking todoesn't appear to know what she is talking about --- yes, you are still bound by the terms of the IVA until the completion certificate is issued, but the £5000 inheritance does get distributed to creditors ( less the agreed fees ). It does not get retained by DFD.

The standard conditions allow for 6 months to get the certificate ssued, however, the majority of firms get this done a lot faster -- some in a few weeks, and we have seen a couple in a few days! There is no reason they should take 6 months!

Hopefully the certificate will arive sooner than she predicts.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
