I have bought a car for my husband on HP 3 weeks ago and haven't even made the first payment yet. He has left me and I haven't now the money to make the payments, the car has been literally with us 3 weeks and done about 500 miles.

Contact the HP company and explain what has happened and see what they say about taking the car back. I have a funny feeling that they wont be very happy about taking it,but its worth a try.

Check your paperwork for a section called "Termination Your Rights".
I believe you can terminate it by writing to whoever you make your payments to. They will then be entitled to the return of the goods. but unfortunately you may still be liable for up to half the amount payable under the agreement.
It may be different considering you have not yet paid the first instalment, so you need to contact the HP company to clarify.
