How glad I am that this forum is so friendly. I occasionally look on other forums, and they can be really bitchy which is not what you need when you are struggling with debt. I was reading a post on another forum yesterday where someone said something really horrible to a guy who was obviously desperate. It's nice to be able to come on here, ask your questions but also be able to have a 'chat'.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

I think a lot of this is down to the professionalism of the admin team and Andy Davie, who work hard to ensure that there are balanced views and quickly step in if posters become overzealous or simply make inappropriate remarks.

I too have read other forums, and would not be happy to post on these as a professional. I'll never forget that appalling treatment poor Jane had to deal with recently. This forum is very much based on community spirit, and I personally generally learn something new every day from the other experts but moreso yourselves who tirelessly give up your time to share your experiences.

Long live the forum!

I have posted on other forums, but I have had such conflicting advice that it's made me worry even more. I also don't want anything to do with a forum where the nasty comments become personal.

I enjoy posting on here, and eventually I would like to perhaps be a debt counsellor for the CAB or something like that.

You would be an amazingly good one, Skippy. To do that sort of job, it is far beneficial to have lived the experience personally - as the people you are advising will take great comfort with that. You could also apply to the Official Receiver's office who always seem to be recruiting!

Once my IPA is over and done with I am going to look into it. I know it's another 3 years, but I want to have been through the whole thing. Would the OR's office have me if I've been bankrupt?

The OR's office have no prejudice towards ex-bankrupts so far as I am aware.

Hi Skippy
Go for it,there is nothing like real life experience and people will naturally feel comforted by someone who has "been there and done it"

Thanks for the encouragement both of you. I might have a look into it next year - get the move out of the way, hopefully be discharged and then look into it. New year, new me or something like that!!!

i'd go for it too skippy as melanie said far better the person who has experienced it to give advice, and i feel it would be very worthwhile, i certainly have learnt an awful lot from here and my own experiences, and thats why i love posting so much, if i can help anyone facing the same situation, it gives you a nice feeling to be able to where possible help them and stay with them on their journey like holding their hand so to speak as everyone here on the forum did with me, i certainly would go for it skip and good luck, oh congratulations on the sale hope you find some where nice.

Hi Skippy - I agree you go for it! You might want to take advantage of the time before discharge to do some training? So that you can use the qualification and experience! The Open University have some great courses as well as degrees and depending on income depends on how much you pay. Our daughter was getting so worried about the debt that she was getting into doing her degree, we looked into her swopping to the OU and found out that it is FREE for her and they don't take our income into account at all - As she earns less than £30K a year she pays nothing, they bought her a laptop and pay for the internet connection charge and gave her accreditation for prior learning.... I advise all my clients to look at the OU now (am a careers adviser)
Best wishes

I too have read other forums and must say they arent that supportive.
I'd also agree Skippy you would make a great councillor your support advise and knowledge are exceptional, you help so many people as do others who post on here.

Skippy,
I dont want to put you off but I would think really hard about what kind of job you want. The Insolvency service do a great job but Im not so sure that there would be a lot of scope to 'help' people face to face. I suspect that it would be a job that predominantly is a 'process', ie send out mail, check mail, check figures etc .. nowt wrong with that but maybe not what you are looking for.
I have found them to be helpful but they cant give you advice , its not part of their brief and could be prejudical to their job. I suspect that they are recruiting because of increased work loads and a high turnover of staff.
It sounds to me that you are more of a people person, perhaps something in the role of 'advisor' .. only you know what you want.

This is with regards to comments in other forums.

These sites should be giving some useful advice and help. These sites should not be used to put people who are in a misearable position.
