This does happen quite a lot with the Co-op. It can be for a number of reasons.

The vast majority of people are given an account even when they have been referred.

You will recieve a letter stating weather you were accepted or not. Usually a week to 2 weeks sometimes longer. Like Jan says the vast majority get acepted after being refered.

they do not conduct a credit search with a cahminder account. I too got referred for this account, i think its fairly standard so dont worry. I just kept ringing them, and after about 5 days i got accepted.

Try Yorkshire bank as well while you are waiting. They offer a basic account, but you have to go into the branch

It's most unusual to be turned down by the Co-op as they are IVA friendly and the check they do is normally just to check out your address.

Paul's right, if you're not on the electoral register the chances are you'll be turned down for a Cashminder account.

Also, was it definitely a Cashminder you applied for Amy? You can only apply on the phone or in a branch, but some people find banks automatically apply for a full account rather than a basic account.

I was up front with my debts too and I went into the branch, they still automatically went for the full account and I was worried their computers would blow up or something but they just said, no worries a cash account it is then.
