most of us could say it not our fault that we had money chucked at us when we could not afford it, its part of the spend , spend , spend culture.and the credit companys know what there doing,
forget dept managment if its going to take more than 6 years to pay you depts, a iva a great way to clear your depts but you got to do your homework find yourself a good iva specialist,

We did DMP first but our creditors would only freeze the interest for 6 months at a time then we had to re-apply which took about 3 months by which time we were back to where we had started, we were on a hiding to nowhere. The IVA was not an easy choice for us but we needed to do something as we were drowning in debt. We don’t find ourselves any better off in the IVA but being able to welcome the postman at the backdoor and not have to dread the phone ringing is just great. We are now 1/3 of the way through our IVA and counting the months down till we can be debt free for the first time in god knows how many years.

I think you will find that the majority of the people on this thread are already in an IVA.

The best way to find a good company is to look at www.iva.com or read what posters have said about the the experts on here.

Are you in an IVA thepartysover?

Bankruptcy is a lot harsher now than it used to be - the fees are soon to go up to £700, any disposable income over £20 a month you will pay for three years and you could still lose your house. The allowances are also a lot stricter these days.

Ginger -- possibly this very same one! It is nearly 7 months old. I suspect the OP is Jefferson Hobbs, or a minion touting for work.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

Hi Kallis, dont know about Bankruptsy being harsher, the whole situation for me was brought about by toxic bankers d what u like with the first letter of banker. No I dont blame small business who went to the wall, we were relying on bigger companies to feed us, as we were a service company, and when the crunch hit the big firms cut back and we suffered.
so the people at the CAB suggested GThornton and here we are.Its not fun its not easy, but its so much better than a DDMP and the people you speak to are really quite pleasant. But am still undecided weather or not to go Bankrupt. am paying my way atm, as long as am employed.

DMP no thank you, I'd still be paying it now and most likely for another 5 years at least. That is if they froze the interest for the entire duration.

I too had the same ambulance chancer letter that this company sent out at the start of my IVA. They knew nothing of my circumstances other than what is published in the public domain, and did not clear their mailing list against the mailing preference service.

For me I'm relieved to have chosen the IVA route to clearing my debt in a reasonable timeframe, yes as I had no assets going BR would have been the cheaper option, paying back effectly nothing - well maybe a IPO for 3 years. However some of us do feel morally obliged to pay back as much as we can over a realistic period of time. I borrowed the money, I have no one else to blame except myself.

My IVA has tought me to manage my money better. I've paid back just over 42K of a 70K debt in 5 years, yes that is more than I planned to do at the start after gaining a promotion within the first year of my IVA.

Now I'm effectly debt free, I'm just waiting for that certificate to arrive. So yes IVA's do work, but you have to work with them to make them a success.

As for credit ratings, IVA, BR and Debt Management are all fround upon when it comes to getting credit. They are all recorded on your credit file. So if you think going into a DMP will help your credit rating, think again.

We're all striving towards completion, an IVA is not for everyone but for me personally it was the best thing I did, the stress it's taken away from me is immense.

Like the matrix it's taught me a lesson in money management and I've met some new friends along the way x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
