Hey Tara, welcome to the forum. Have a look at the posts on here and also all the information pages listed on the left. When you're ready, you should speak to an insolvency practitioner to discuss specific details but in the meantime, post as many questions as you want. Good luck, Viki X

Tara

Hi there and hope that we are able to help you resolve your problems.

There is more than one solution to debt problems, and in order for us to advise which would be the most suitable for you, we would need to know a little bit more about your situation. How much unsecured debt do you have in total, and how much could you afford to pay each month towards your debts from your earnings ? Are you a homeowner, either singly or jointly owned, and if so, how much roughly is it worth and how much is owed on the mortgage ?

Have you looked into the other possibilities of bankruptcy or debt management to see what they entail ?

i wish we had discovered this forum before we entered into an IVA...not that i think we would have done anything differently...but we did enter into it with our heads well and truly bowed down.(with shame)..afraid to ask any questions in case we were deemed to be "troublesome"...or maybe it would be turned down if we asked for something to be changed

consequently we are only now having the courage to ask questions ...still only on the forum...still too scared to go direct to our IP....we are just about to get income and expenditure ready for 2nd year review and we are already soooo anxious in case it all goes wrong..

so coming on this forum will help you and as so many say....dont be afraid to contact any of the experts to ask whatever you need to

It is such a shame that you feel unable to approach your IP with issues relating to your IVA. IPs are here to help with these queries, and whilst this forum is a great place to come and look for help, the experts on here can only give broad brush advice which may not be relevant to your specific circumstances.

Believe it or not your IP is there to support you as well as your creditors. Remember they want there fees payed first! As this usually occurs within the first two years of your IVA it's in their interest.

You should phone them be very direct, they can allow for speacial circumstance, and can be flexible, if you feel your paying too much. Be completely direct with them.

Not asking and being completely upfront causes far greater anxiety in the long run. Trust is very important in circumstances like this.

I know how you feel sometimes to be honest, you feel that you are being a pain in the bum by asking what you think are 'stupid questions'.

I have posted many questions of this forum and have received replies that have been so useful and they helped me to understand the IVA process in depth.

What I do when I need to phone/email my I.P. with something I deem as a 'stupid question' is just think that :

1. The I.P. is there to help you, help you sort out your financial problems without casting any judgment
2. They are the 'middle man' between you and your creditors and they are not there to give you a hard time but to aid you and see you thru the IVA to a satisfactory conclusion for you and your creditors.
3. Your I.P. is getting paid by you to do this so in reality, they are providing you with a service that you are paying for and you shouldn't feel that you are bothering them in any way what so ever

Finally, just because they are now in fact 'your only creditor', they are not ogres an are actually very nice people.[:X]

IPs should always be there to help clients when they need assistance or guidance - and just for the record JohnT - we do not get all of our fees paid by year 2!
