If anybody who is a councillor comes to an IVA agreement are they allowed to continue as a councillor?

Hi,

Maybe one for the experts but i would suggest yes a councillor can enter into an IVA.

However i think you would need to check the terms of your appointment and the small print.

Sure an expert will be along shortly.

Yes generally - but as Carl says you need to check the terms of the constitution of your council to see if it refers to IVAs or compromises with creditors to be sure. Do be aware that your details will be held on a public register which is easily searchable, and I have seen rival political parties make use of this against rival candidates in the past.
