I live with my girlfriend in her house and pay her £450 towards bils etc. I own my own car and cover all the running costs myself. We are hoping to move house soon. She'll be taking on the mortgage herself and I'll pay £450 towards bills etc. If I set up an IVA will it reflect on her in any way.

It wouldn't affect her credit rating, but as you would be living with her as a single household both sets of incomes would be taken into account when working out what the level of IVA contributions would be.

If your debt was taken out at a time when you were already living with her, then the creditors could argue that she may have benefitted from the debt-financed expenditure so she should contribute as well to pay it back, if your debt arose from a time before you moved in with her then only your share of any surplus after payment of the household expenses need be paid into the IVA.

Do you class yourself as partners or flatmates? And has your girlfriend in any way benefitted from your debts, or has the money all been spent on yourself? Do you have any children or joint debts? And how long have you been in the relationship? All of these factors will determine the extent to which your girlfriend may be affected by an IVA.

It will in some capacity.

If you live together as a couple you are likely to be associated as financially interdependent. It could potentially affect her when applying for credit and would prevent you jointly applying.

Also as previously mentioned, if you are deemed to have benefited from the debt.

If you had these debts before you met your girlfriend and she as not gained from the debts. Then why dont you sign a tennancy agreement you can get from WHSMITH for about £15.00 and you agree to pay her £450 rent per month
