A litre of salt water? Won't that make you throw up? Or is that the idea?

Makes me shudder just to think about it! I'm having enough problems eating solids at the moment and wanting to thrown up or actually doing it and I hate it!

There is a science to it, trust me!
As I said, it shouldnt be used as a tool for losing just weight but as a detox of mind and body. It was first used to treat stomach ulcers and clean up clogged arteries!

Personally I just look at it as another expensive fad diet, I certainly wouldn't do that.

I've tried all the diets going, and whilst they work initially, I always put the weight back on, and then some. You have to be really disciplined to stay on the straight and narrow afterwards.

I agree Jan, and I don't see how drinking a litre of salt water can be good for you!

I read a good article about detox diets just after Christmas and basically the body can detox itself, which is what the liver is for.

A friend of mine did the Carol Vorderman detox when that first came out and she felt awful the whole time and had no energy.

If all you are drinking is salt water and some form of tea, then you will feel weak, especially if you are doing laxatives as well. Lets face it, after a few days, there's nothing to detox anyway!

I've just spent 4 weeks having nothing but thin soup and liquids. I got totally fed up of it, and didn't want to do a lot!

Its not just salt water and laxatives lol!
Its sea-salt with warm water (not table salt) in the morning to flush the tract, madal bal syrup with lemons and pepper during the day, plus water and chinese tea (which is a mild laxative) in the evening.
You would really have to read the book to understand the science and origins behind it though. Expecting to feel ****e for first 4 days as the toxins pass through my blood, so I'll keep you updated!!![xx(]

I still think it's an expensive, faddy diet.

Same here - there's a lot more that I could do with £80! The human body needs food to function!

I wouldn't be wanting to go to the loo all the time either!

I think anything to do with such drastic detox methods should only be done under the supervision of someone who knows what they are doing.

There is always someone out there who knows when they can make a fast buck or two out of women desperate to shed weight - I know, I have been that person. I've got better things to spend my money on now.

I appreciate what you are saying about desperate women, but its really not aimed at or for them. Its not really about the weight too much for me, but more about feeling sluggish and needing a boost for the half marathon. So many religions around the world fast, but we as Westerners seem to have this big blockade against it, which is no surprise considering that Westerners are the most overweight portion in the world! I liked the book and shall give it a go. £80 is cheap compared to what I would spend on food, so we shall see. I honestly in my heart of hearts dont think I will do it, but I need to see!

If you're training for the half marathon (and good luck with that!) don't you need protein, carbs etc to give you the energy to run? I would have thought that fasting / detoxing would do more harm than good at this point?

I still believe that anything like this is aimed at women desperate to lose weight, but I am not including you in that DM, it will appeal to other as well, but nothing will convince me that it is a healthy way to go about things.

If you eat plenty of fruit and veg, you shouldn't need to detox.

And I agree with Skip about the carbs and proteins.
