Hi,

I'm looking to apply for an IVA, once I have paid this off then apply to immigrate to Australia from the UK. I have family over there, a family of my own here (baby + wife) and my profession is on the skilled list. So I have a good chance of acceptance.

I would like to know if having an IVA in the past will affect my application for immigration?

Many thanks for your help,

Luke

Hi there I just wanted to say a big hello and welcome to the forum,
We have permenant australian visas we got them 5 years ago pre IVA, they didn't ask anything about our financial circumstances just the forcasted amount of money we will have on entering the country. They like you to be able to prove you can look after your finances as you cannot claim any benefits for the first 2 years. Unfortunately we are still here in Britain eith our visas expiring in 4 months! The visa lasts for 5 years in total. But please be aware that if it is a permanant visa you are applying for then you will have to travel to australia to get the visa verified within 9 months of them being issued, so best to time that trip with your actual move out there, rather than incurring the extra burden of return flights! Ring an emmigration agent we used Four Corners and I highly recommend them and ask them if it would have any bearing on your application. Hope this helps a little.
Why spend life worrying...when you can spend it smiling!!

It shouldn't do - but you would be best checking Australia House for the current policy on applications. You can do this on an anonymous basis. Is it your intention to emigrate once your IVA has completed? If so I assume that you are looking at at least 5 years hence?

Many thanks for your help.

Yes we intend to emigrate once we have finished the IVA, so yeah 5 years. However, if possible we would like to move out sooner but I assume the cost of repaying the IVA from Australia (currency conversion) wouldn't be worth it?

I have several clients who pay their IVA's from Australia! The issues is not the currency conversion, but whether you could maintain the same standard of living on similar salaries etc. Don't write it off if you get the opportunity, as your IVA will continue so long as you make the payments and it is just as easy to send money electronically from Australia as it is within the UK.

Just to pick up on something said earlier, we have just started our application process for a permenant visa and have been told that the only restriction is that we have to physically be in Australia for 2 out of the 5 years. Nothing about having to go there within 9 months. Maybe it's changed? Who knows. They change the rules every 2 minutes I think [:D][:D]
