I remember before the MS, i was a lot bigger than i am now. I tried Slimming World.....ok but a very boring diet and so easy to get fed up with.
I once had a rowing machine and used it quite a lot for the first week but with dodgey knees, i ended up on crutches for the next 3 months.

My mum battles with her weight and it turned out she has either an over active or under active thyroid (cant remember which)

I have an overactive Thyroid which speeds up your metabolism so in theory you should lose weight the problem is I am hungry all the time and find my self snacking I do try the healthy fruit option but often end up with chocolate.[;)]

I am hoping to receive treatment in September which will possible mean that my thyroid will become under active and slow my metabolism down until the medication is sorted out.

Debbie, buy a hula hoop. It's great fun, tones your waist and has you knackered after 5 minutes so it's definatley aerobic.[:o)] X

Jan if they treat your thyroid and you do become hypothyroid then be careful the weight will pile on. I had the same and lost 4 stone whilst hyper ( graves disease) but as soon as I had the treatment the weight came back quickly and a bit more, if you are aware then at least you can try to stop it coming back. I could eat anything when hyper and still lose weight, not so when treated.
Vicki do they do hula hoops in extra large lol.

I wish I could find a way to speed up my metabolism - I just can't lose any weight. Admittedly I haven't been for a run for a week, but I don't think I eat that badly and I still put on! I've tried Slimming World (I agree Mrs Skint it's boring), Weight Watchers (I get fed up counting points) and Slim Fast (made me ill as it's got milk powder in it) so I'm running out of ideas! Has anyone tried Rosemary Conley?

Thanks For the info Ang.
That is why i am tying to eat healthily as I know the weight will go on fast once i am treated. I have lost about 2 stone but I am still a big girl.

Me too, I thought it was great to lose the weight but to be honest, I just went saggy lol and all my friends thought I had something terrible as it fell off me . I was upset to put the weight back on but my daughter said I look like me again and didnt when I lost it. I fight with such a slow metabolism to lose weight and have recently managed 2 stone, though I bet a bit has gone back on of late. I just eat as healthily as I can and walk as much as possible

I've done the Atkins and the Cambridge (twice!) I managed to lose loads of weight on them - and then put it all back on when I stopped!
Am now classed as 'morbidly obese' by my doctor and have been refered for bariatric surgery.

The hula hoop sounds fun! Where do I get one? My students were saying yesterday that these new 'personal coach' game thingies are supposed to be good. Anyone know anything about them?

Jan ... I've seen some of those cases on the cable tv where they have the surgery done ... the results look spectacular.

That's rather what I am hoping Debbie! The letter has just gone off from my GP to the consultant, so I have to wait for an appointment with the consultant. It's by no means certain that they will do it, and of course I haven't got the means to go private, so it's a bit up in the air at the moment.

I have my fingers crossed.

I've got my fingers crossed too Jan.

Debbie, I got mine from ebay, they are quite cheap on there, make sure you get a weighted large exercise one not a kids one, you have to work harder then![:0] X
