I started an IVA in November 2006, but have just become pregnant. I will have to give up work, and I'm really worried what will happen to me. I've not been with my partner long, will he be expected to keep up my payments?

Hi Dianne
You must tell your IP straight away who will advise the way forward, if your partner is living with you his income will be taken into account as proportional splits of bills etc.
THE ONLY WAY IS UP :-)

Hi Dianne - and congratulations on the news. Some things are more important than owing a few debts!

Kezza is correct in that you should inform your IP straight away so that they can discuss options with you. Do you intend to return to work after the baby is born? If so what arrangements will you make for childcare? Also your IP will want to have details of your partner's income and expenditure, to assess what contributions you ought to be making to joint expenditure (I am assuming that you are co-habiting). Will you need to move house?

It is probably too early to confirm some of these points at the moment, so maintain your IVA payments while you can and give your IP regular updates if your circumstances change.

dianne_w, congratulations! Children are wonderful. Especially, when they give you that loving look, a sweet kiss, and a palm extended for your cash.

Seriously, inform your IP of your upcoming new yummy mummy status. And as Mel said keep him/her informed of all financial changes.

Good luck and enjoy the pregnancy.
