Stewpots, natwest are part of RBS so that may explain why they wouldn't give yu an account. Lloyds are the same group as Halifax as is Bank of Scotland so that prob rules them out...tho lloyds have been good to me so worth asking. First Trust may soon be Santander (industry speculation) so avoid. Nationwide are independent of your creditors so may be able to help. Hsbc and first direct are one and the same so your horrid woman was either stupid or sending you on a wild goose chase. The local building societies may be best for you or Nationwide. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

That is the only downside with Yorkshire Bank. The 2 City Cnetre branches do not open on a Saturday, the only one in Leeds that does is out in the sticks, so it is no good for me to get in to see them. Luckily I have ZERO need normally to go to a branch.

I don't think Nationwide are that sympathetic towards IVAs but it is worth a try.

Otherwise it may well be a managed account where you are guaranteed acceptance.

You can do all that.

Secure Trust come recommended, and Thinkbanking is another one to look at, as is Clearcash.

I'll remember that about Nationwide. There is a group of building societies collectively known as National Australia Group - they could also be worth a try as you may find they share facilities and increase the number of branches/ cashpoints available to you.

Funny you should mention that as I saw a man with a Yorkshire Bank Umbrella today and it said on it, 'Part of the National Australia Group', not sure when they bought them out like!!

I'm racking my brains here as the bank account was one of my biggest worries so I feel for you.

Bank of Ireland and the Irish banks have agreements re branch and cashpoint usage with UK banks so you may be able to open an account with an Irish bank and use the facilities of a high street bank (the agreement shouldn't extend to any of your creditors party to the agreement being able to offset your balance but you would need to check).

I stick with Nationwide as they were my bank pre IVA even though I wasn't overly impressed with them.

Sometimes it is down to availability of paying in facilities and cashpoint accessibility.

we've changed our bank and did it before the first phone call re the iva though we did know thats what we were going to do. The only questions they asked that might have given them a hint was why did we wantto change banks (had beenwith HSBC 20 years) told them we had been unhappy for a while and it was lots of little things !!! and was asked had we ever been bankrupt...which of course is a no, cos we haven't.

We got an account each and a joint acc and savings plus daughter savings acc.

Fingers crossed for you hun x

Obscure bank of the day: ICICI - they are a major Indian bank with rapid expansion plans in the UK. Prabably better for Londoners but I guess you're near London Stewpots as you worked in the City.

In which case, you could also give Metro bank a whirl. Don't they aim to open 500 branches over the next couple of years or something crazy? They seem quite funky too. I like any bank that gives out dog biscuits!!

To be honest I would not touch an Indian bank (presumably with Indian call centres) and Metro bank is not widely available as far as I am aware.

I have three dogs and would not touch Metrobank with a ten foot barge pole!

Thanks I shall give them a try, might be the only bank I didn’t have debt with ! (I had a large loan with Northern Rock, in the IVA although they didn’t vote for it)

I have a current account with Santander haven’t used it for 2yrs

I called changed my address and asked for new card etc etc which is being sent

I put some money into the account, it had just gone overdrawn ( I had one small direct debit going out last 2yrs)

I ‘assume’ at some time they will catch up to the fact I am in the IVA , Santander credit card is in the IVA (apparently they didn’t bother to vote at the time and still have a debt collection agency chasing me)

I wonder if I could pay my salary in Santander (I already have a cheque book) I assume

a) They couldn’t take my money as debt to their card is legally separate

However I suppose its treating a creditor separately ?.

The fact I have told them my new address will something come up on their system in the next 2 months??

I will miss not having a cheque book.

I have noted on this forum NATWEST have people in a current IVA so what I was told was wrong I will write to them.
