we entered our iva a year ago. Although having our payslips, we were advised not to include my husbands shift allowance, which is a regular payment. Now we owe £2000 and our payments are going to increase by £200. We are already struggling and my husband is at his wits end.
Welcome to the forum - my advice would be to discuss this with the IP (not the admin staff) and seek there help in getting this sorted for you ...your I&E needs to be realistic and display your true costs - if the bottom line is the IVA is not do-able anymore then your IP needs to help you work through other solutions.

Hi Dawn and welcome, have you got that in writing and what does your proposal state regarding overtime etc? I would defo speak to your IP and as Luluj has already outlined your I+E needs to be realistic and viable, good luck, let's hope that you don't owe the money or if you do they are willing to let you pay it over time.

thanks for your replies. thankfully, they are allowing us to pay back £45 per month, but i feel we were misinformed at the beginning of our iva, as we were led to believe this shift allowance wouldn't need to be included in our income.
Hi There does seem to be some confusion here. The shift allowance isn't included when calculating your disposable income. But, like overtime, it IS regarded as extra income and should be treated as such in that it should have been split under either the 10% 50/50 rule or a straight 50/50 split according to the terms of your own proposal.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

At least you have a solution albeit you still have to pay extra money, this is where it is so important to get things in writing and not take it at face value, i'm also guilty of that but i suppose once bitten, twice shy so to speak. I think if i was embarking on my IVA now (thankfully that isn't the case) i would ask for everything to be put into writing or at the very least write a letter to my IP confirming what i had been told, hindsight a wonderful thing.

Mine wasn't as it's unpredictable, in that if for any reason I am off sick or on leave, I will not be getting any enhancements as I won't be working them!, also we don't work a set pattern, it's random so my extra income each month could vary from nothing to £500. but it is dealt with using the 10% 50/50 rule over the course of my IVA so far, the extra I have paid in has varied from £20 one month to a max of £280, I would be highly annoyed if my IP suddenly decided to use that as an average and increase my payments accordingly as there is every chance I could have some months where I would not be getting any enhancements as it would leave things very tight for me.
My husband's shift allowance was included from the very beginning and our disposable income based on that - that's the reason we are in such difficulty now as they've taken him off shifts at a loss of £8000 per year (they are now talking of removing an additional £2000 per year on call allowance which was included as well). This has left us in a position were we are now having to go for a variation and all the worry that goes with that - if it hadn't been included in the first place and was 50/50% like overtime in our IVA, we wouldn't be in such a pickle now!!

I can understand why you may now have uplift payments to pay over, but did your IP not provide you with a matrix to calculate this and pay it over on a monthly basis? All additional monies due to the IVA must be paid over within 14 days of receipt. We provide our clients with an Excel spreadsheet so that they can monitor this each month.
Not sure why your monthly payments have increased however - is the shift allowance paid as part of your regular income, and if so why wasn't it taken into account at the commencement of the IVA?
we were probably just very naive. we thought that because it wasn't taken into account at the start, we would not be accountable for it. have learnt to question everything to keep ourselves right. Payments have increased because OH shift allowance increases his net pay. Still in negotiations to try to bring it to a more manageable level for us.
Dawnhume I hope you get things sorted and they make your payments more manageable. I am finding my payments hard at the minute and I am awaiting the outcome of my 4th year review. Spoke to my supervisor and I would have to add on 6 - 12 months onto my IVA if I reduce my payments so trying to struggle as just want to get to the end as soon as possible
Dawnhume my advisor stated that if I reduce my payments I will have to extend my IVA period for 6 - 12 months so I would be paying 66 - 72 months and I want it finished as soon as possible
If you're having problems Dawn then your IP should be able to sort out lower payments for you. They can reduce them by up to 15% without resorting back to the creditors.
I can't extend mine - I had a payment break a few months ago and have had to up the payments as I can't extend beyond 60 (even though I'll probably have to do the extra 12 months!!)
