I'm the same Lesley, I've never had to consider industrial action - I'm not in a union and very much doubt I would join if we had one.

The point is though, if someone who's not in an IVA takes industrial action they have to cover any shortfall themselves, so I agree with Melanie that an IP probably wouldn't look favourably on a reduction of IVA payments.

I take Melanie's point totally, but as I don't understand industrial action I can't comment about that side of it. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I do belong to a union, but would never vote for, or take, industrial action. Can't justify losing the pay as I have to think about paying the bills.

I will explore all options to us, I hadn't considered contacting anyon other than the IP, honestly. So thank you Melanie for the suggestion.

Of course it is the individual's choice to strik..he didn't vote for a strike, but the majority did. Everyone he works with is a union member and crossing the picket line wouldn't be a very pleasant experience I imagine..we will make things work somehow, we usually do!

Unfortunately yes,if the changes go ahead it will result in less money - possibly even redundancy. [:(]

Have to say that when the public sector went out on strike a few years ago, I crossed the picket line, and would do so again.

I can't afford to lose the money, but of course it is down to the individual.

Hope you find a solution AR...and hope it doesn't result in redundancy for your partner.

Hope you work something out - maybe a heavy cold / flu bug is in your area at the moment or a raging stomach bug?? One way out of not crossing picket line and not loosing money ! I agree our IVA's should not be considered as a quick way out each time soemthing happens - although it is hard to overcome these issues thy normally resolve themselves - good luck !

Personally, I would just cross the picket line, but that's me.

I'd never throw a sickie for anything.

Hi
Let's remember that the question was about what to do about the loss of income and affording IVA payments rather than about going on strike or not.

totally agree with andy, this is a important and difficult situation, lets concentrate on helping angelrainbow here.what might start out as a short term dispute could spiral into a longterm disaster.i thinks its very important to discuss this with your ip,and also it might be worth having a chat with a union rep.

I agree that it's an important discussion, but I do feel that it's also important to make it clear that someone taking industrial action might not be able to have a reduced IVA payment, and also to bear in mind that someone not in an IVA would have to cover the shortfall without a payment break of any kind.

Hi
I won't allow the forum to have a debate about the merits of someone taking industrial action or not because it will just get out of hand.
Discussing how to cope with the income shortfall following such action is fine and the question of whether an IP should assist or not is also a valid and welcome discussion

Andy - Thank you. As you correctly pointed out, I was enquiring into the options open to us. The decision on whether to strike or not is a very personal one and not for debate here.

Thankfully, next week's action has been called off, as I am sure you have all heard. We now have everything crossed here for a speedy and satisfactory resolution to the contentious issues and that staff and passenger safety is assured.
