Hello. I've just read the article on the insolvancy register and didn't realise just how easy it is for Joe Public to access this information.I'm not on it yet.How long does it take.My IVA has just been accepted. I've not told anyone about this. Thought it was only bancrupcy that was public information

Your IP has a duty to notify the Registrar of Individual Voluntary Arrangements as soon as the IVA is accepted, so it should show up after a couple of days.

Dont worry too much about the register cat1. Just think back to before you entered into your IVA - would you ever in a million years have thought of looking up the Insolvency Register - or even have known it existed? I know I wouldnt!!! And if someone is really desperate to find out another persons details I am sure there are other ways they could do it these days!!!

Hello Cat1,

Optimist has offered some real truths about how public the Insolvency register is. Yes it is there for any members of the public to see but the individuals that actually know about the register would only be those who are going bankrupt, entering into an IVA or work in the industry.

It just feels so intrusive.I feel totally 'ashamed' of this situation, anxious and panicky all the time. reading the forum is so useful as even though my husband also entered into an iva at the same time he will not really discuss and seems to understand even less than me about the process.I need people to chat to who understand, if it wasn't for the information and the answers here I think I would be in a very bad place. I find myself looking around at folk shopping and 'in general' wondering if they have an IVA. I don't know anyone with one, but that makes sense as they perhaps wouldn't broadcast thiers either.Thanks again.Cat 1

One thing you can be sure of during your IVA cat1 - you will go through the full range of moods - there will be good days and bad days!!! But at the end of the day just grit your teeth and accept you are in it for the long hard slog - and keep telling yourself that you ARE going to see it through. To a lsrge degree what will be will be so try not to feel too ashamed or anxious. Just approach it with the viewpoint that you are going to repay absolutely the max you can but that you are still entitled to a life over the next five years.

As for shopping - yes - I think you can be pretty certain that many of the people you see whipping out their credit cards are sailing close to the financial edge!!!!

Cat1 there is nothing shameful about the steps you are taking now, yes you have made mistakes (havn't we all) but you have made the first step and admitted you have a debt problem..that takes courage.

You are not alone in this situation, in fact in the second quarter of 2007 some 26,956 individuals in England & Wales declare themself insolvent either through bankruptcy or an IVA.
