i read in the daily mail yesterday that experts are predicting that 1 in 4 familes could become insolvent this year, i know i am gonna be one of them. but i find that statistic very worrying for the economy as a whole

i am one of them too!

you just never know how people are really doing! on the outside to other people it looked as though we were doing really well, little did they know we were up to our eyes in debt!

thank goodness for this site, cos debt problems are more common than any of us would have thought!

It definately is Michael, unfortunately a sign of the times I think. Maybe it will shake up the lenders and be the start of the end of irresponsible lending and the credit culture that we all seem to have been sucked into. Hopefully, our kids will learn by our mistakes and never find themselves insolvent.....

yes we too the outside look to be doing well, but have been living on credit for far too long. should have faced up to it sooner. yes this is a great site, cant believe how many people are just like us

I think the majority of people are living on credit. At our worst we weren't just using credit to help out but relying on it to pay for everything, bills, mortgage, food, dinner money for the kids, the lot!
At least 3 of my friends know people who are having to file for br soon.
Hopefully, a lot of the '1 in 4' will find this site when they most need it, at the very start of sorting their debt out.

It got to the stage with us that as soon as we were paid, we were broke again. I was using cash from my credit cards (NEVER a good idea!) to pay other credit card bills and to pay into the bank so we didn't go overdrawn, and I was still going out spending.

I am so glad I made the decision to get it sorted and we are one payment down on our IVA. No phone calls now, the occasional letter and that's it.

We live in a small cul de sac of only 10 houses, we're all really friendly, but they have no idea what we have been through. Who knows if anyone else there is having the same problems? You just never know

we in same position of you kallis, and also live in a small cul de sac, 12 houses. have made call to tina, but as other half currently on 3 mths notice and looking for another job we can not progress further until we know her i/e so still doing it. have managed to change mortgage to interest only though and as soon as that goes through will be applying for a dmp prior to iva

I hope your OH finds a job soon. We were in DMP for a time, it is a help. Also your mortgage payments will have come down as well. Fingers crossed for a successful IVA in the future.

michael you have now admitted to your problems and are facing them and that i think is one of the hardest steps!

michael - i know what you mean about getting low some days!

please keep posting on here - this site has really got me through my low times, i am sure that there will be a solution for you, you said you are with melanies team, they are really good and i know they will do all they can for you!

I read the same in yesterday's mail.Quite worrying but strangely reassuring too.I 'failed'.Clearly others are in the same position.1 IN 4 means I know lots of people in theory who are experiencing the same as we did.None of my neighbours or cloolegues know.Few friends and family memebers know about our situation.It's all incredibly stressful and I'm now not quite sure how I managed to continue to pretend all was ok , especially over last summer when things were really coming to a head.It was so traumatic...doubt I will ever really get over it.However, I will NEVER, EVER get into any debt again,EVER.A lesson has been learnt and I'm so grateful for my second change and peace of mind (well mainly)I'm also very pleased to have found this forum.I read everyday, even if I don't post.Because it's such a big 'secret' it's the only way I can stay relatively sane and speak with people I know understand!!!
