Insolvency register

I have noticed a few people make reference to this and having read in the paper about the Liverpool footballer going bankrupt "by mistake" thought I would check the website.

Sure enough searcing under the footballer's name the details were there including his home address.

I find this pretty alarming for the guy and I am sure a lot of others will as well. I know people say "only IPs" would be interested in looking up people's details but it really is THAT EASY to look up people's details.

My question is if I did go for an IVA how soon AFTER completion will my name address and other details be there for all to see. I realise that during the five years it will be there but my question is how soon is it removed AFTER the final payment ?

Is anyone able to give a timescale - weeks, months, a year ???

I've just found myself on the register - twice! I am showing as in an IVA and bankrupt. Will the IVA automatically be removed? I do agree that a person's address shouldn't be shown though. What would happen to someone who was a victim of domestic abuse for example, surely they could be tracked down by an abusive partner...

My name was on the register within 5 days,and it stays there for 6 years,if you complete your iva in 5 years then it stays on the register for another year,if i am wrong then one of the experts will correct me

Hi all

Unfortunately if you become insolvent this is deemed publicly available information and it does not matter a jot if you are bankrupt or in an IVA.

The only consolation is that the information is in a database and you should not be able to find details just by googling for a name. You have to go to the actual website itself.

Ironically CCJ information is also publicly available but much more difficult to obtain.

The only difference between bankrupcey and an iva is if you are made bankrupt then it will appear in your local newspaper if an iva it will only appear on the insolvancey register,and unless people are specificaly looking to find someone on that register then it would not be an issue

Your name is removed from the register as soon as your IVA is completed, and therefore does not stay there for 6 years. Skippy, your IVA will be removed as soon as your Supervisor files a notice of ceasing to act with the Registrar.

And can I just say that the instances of an individual being made bankrupt "by mistake" are extremely rare. People are made bankrupt because the owe money, or have not attended to their affairs correctly. Often this is a result of failure to submit tax returns and make payments to H M Revenue & Customs. If someone is genuinely made bankrupt "by mistake", they can apply for a stay on advertising whils their recission application is being dealt with at Court. This will also stop entries being made at the DTI.

I must admit the footballer must be very silly to allow bankruptcy to occur - he says it is an "oversight" and that is why he feels it is a mistake. I think if he knew people would have such information so easily available - particularly his address - he would have done anything to avoid it. Even if he gets it overturned people have still been able to see his details so even if it gets REMOVED from the database people have been able to see his details.

If you were able to do a full and final immediate IVA, how long would you be on the register for ? I am sure an entry would have to be made but if the final settlement was distributed "on the day" how many weeks/months would it be on the register for.

Yes, when I lived in Reading a few years ago our local MP went bankrupt 'by mistake', I believe in respect of a tax debt. The extent of her 'oversight' was such that I think she was arrested by bailiffs and brought before the Court. It does seem a rather unlikely mistake to make.

My IVA was full and final settlement, I was on the insolvency register until they received a copy of the final statement and certficate of completion from my IP.
Unfortunately they did not receive it when I received mine June 06 and if I had not found out about the register through this forum it would still have been there. I spoke to them and they were extremely helpful would not accept a copy from me, but my IP sent a futher copy to them and the entry was removed within a week and my credit file updated also.

We went on the register within about 4-5 days of our IVA's being approved. I had never even heard of the register before embarking on an IVA so it doesn't worry me too much about people finding out we are in an IVA by searching against it - we have also googled our names and nothing came up!!
