hi there,
anyone know if having an iva prevents taking out a mobile phone contract. Need a better model of phone for business reasons, one with email facility but cant afford the cost for pay as u go, so was wondering if it would be worth trying for a contract on a mid range phone and tariff.
Thanks :-)

Hi lots of us have mobile contracts. I would think most entered the IVA with them, however, you could try t-mobile for a modest contract. I managed to get my daughter one as she was only 17 at the time and she pays me each month. Others posters may suggest alternative networks to try. Hope you get a phone
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi Bluelagoon. Welcome to the Forum. Virgin offered me a blacberry pay monthly contract @ £7.15pm for 2 years, 'for being a loyal customer'. Good luck

Hi and welcome.

If you're already in a contract then there is no problem in updating. I believe, as Lesley says, TMobile are IVA friendly. A lot of the others aren't if you are trying to take out a new contract.

That was a good deal Gillib.

i got 2 sim only cards from virgin no problem in the last 2 months.i am a customer so that helps and i could have had any of there free phone deals if i had not wanted to keep our own phones.my wife had tried to get a contract with orange and they said no.she not in iva now as she did a f@f 2 years ago but obviously its still shows up for 6 years.try buying a second hand blackberry curve which are fairly cheap and you can do e-mail on that,i did.getting a sim only deal should not be too much i pay £5 for 100mins 3000 texts and 3000 to any other virgin mobile, which is easily enough for me.
cc received 6th January 2014 now upwards and onwards

I have a contract with O2 which hubby uses and daughter had to take out a contract with 3 for me which I obviously pay for as they turned me down.

I like my up to date phones I'm afraid, plus I get totally unlimited internet access which is great for when I'm at work so I can post from my phone.

Won't work provide you with a phone? If they want you available 24/7 it's the least they can do!

OP doesn't actually say that he/she is needed 24/7 just that they need the phone for business purposes.

Hi emptyspaces - we are normally fine renewing contracts, upgrading etc. It's only taking out contracts with a new provider that can be a problem.

Jan - I don't know anyone with a work phone who isn't expected to be permanently on call. I got b*****king for not picking up at 7am on a Sunday morning (I was sleeping!!) and my sister's husband was still getting emails up a mountain in Tanzania on their honeymoon LOL. Whoever thought a mobile office was good idea should be shot!

I am on voda and went through my upgrade successfully whilst in my IVA, so they don't seem to mind (or check). However they did refuse me a second phone, whilst T-Mob have authorised me for "multiple handsets".

Did you apply for tmobile contract from scratch recently whilst in iva or where you already with them ?

Also , if you are with tmobile , what's the reception and customer service like ?

Hi 12 months to go,

I applied to t-Mobile from scratch. Can't really comment on coverage as the "handset" I was going for is a mobile hot wi-fi which we only use locally. Customer service seems responsive and friendly. I only had to speak to them once as they sent two gizmos, but it was sorted painlessly.
