The tax payable for 2006/2007 should have been included in your IVA as a claim, and tax payable for 2007/2008 - which is payable in instalments on 31 January 2008 and 31 July 2008, with the balancing payment due on 31 January 2009 needs to be paid by you directly to HMRC.

So I think you are correct in the payments that you have made.

Thank you Melanie! It was the 2 years rolling over to constitute a claim bit that was confusing me!

Don't worry - sometimes it confuses even seasoned experts like Ian and myself as well!

All those years ago when I took my exams I had to take a Tax paper as well. At the first lecture I was told to remember simply that rules are rules and to forget about logic! Perhaps I have a head start because when I left school my first job was at Inland Revenue but even so the old grey cells get a bit of exercise from time to time[:)]

Met with my IP yesterday, and he is a really nice guy. Made me feel re- assured that I have got myself into a right financial mess (JOKE) no, he has made me feel a lot easier about a lot of the self employed issues I was having, although this site has helped tonnes. All I need to do now is keep trading, keep fending off the calls and wait until he has completed my proposal and then hopefully it will begin to get easier........

You have taken the big leap, littleted, hopefully it's onwards and upwards from here. Good luck.
