I'm currently on an IVA. I currently live at home and want to move out in the 3 months. Estate Agencies will do an application, which obviously means checking credit ratings. Will I get knocked back? The same if I wanted to get a mortgage. Will I get knocked me? IS there anyone who can help me?

I suggest that you look for a private landlord rather than going through estate agents. They are less likely to carry out credit checks, but you ought to be prepared to pay a substantial rental deposit if they do.

It is possible to rent or get a mortgage whilst in an IVA but the important thing to remember is that both of these may have an adverse impact on your ability to continue paying your agreed monthly payment so it is of the upmost importance to discuss this with your IP.

Hi Iro and Welcome to the forum,

It is possible to get a mortgage or to rent a property whilst in an IVA. However I would discuss this with your I.P before making your move, especially for a mortgage you will need your I.P's express permission.

If you go through an estate agent to rent a place they may do a credit check, but my advice is be up front and honest with them about your situation. They may require a larger deposit than usual.

If this does not work out you can always look for a private landlord.

Hi Iro,

You will need the express permission of your IP to get a mortgage and it is unlikely that this will be agreed if the mortgage puts you in a worse financial position than renting.

As previously mentioned you can get a mortgage whilst in an IVA as long as the IVA has been carried out satisfatorily, you have the permission of your IP and you are able to raise finance from family or friends for the deposit, fees and (if applicable) duties.
