ok im just starting my iva journey i hope... ive made the decision to iva with parents help (at 37) rather than br, ive picked my iva company. im sorting all the paperwork to send to them for the proposal to be written. ive canceled all my dd etc ( as up to this month ive managed not to get in arrears with anything but it got to the stage where unless i did something the debt would keep getting bigger and our live would be getting worse. i was told it was the snowballl effect. all this has been decided and done over the last week and the phone calls started on tuesday. it seems very stressfull at the moment and i keep doubting my decisions.

i do hope it gets better from here as the worry that im making the right choices gives me a sick feeling and scares me senseless tbh.

ive picke mccambridge duffy as the iva company as after reading on here and looking at the iva.com site they have a good success rate and feedback.. the biggest worry i think is that it gets rejected. i keep think what will i do then and worry about my wife and kids and if food will be on the table.. proberly a bit ott but thats me.

anyhow it feels a bit better writing it down rather than bottling it. up.

Hi, gosh I remmember that feeling well, you will get used to the phone calls its just initially that you feel bad.well I think so in my experience. i chose to have caller display that way if the number was unrecognisable or withheld I didnt answer it . I am pretty sure your IVA company will do their best on your behalf to get it passed , you will find from being on here that they dont usually forward them if they dont think they will get accepted.I wish you the best of luck .. keep us posted on your journey . good luck

Welcome friend weve all been there.
You will receive support from this forum second to none.
With regard to the phone calls no matter what you say they will continue right up to the acceptance of the IVA
I went with call blocking other people have changed there numbers but dont not do anything as they never stop.
With regard to Banks I now use Yorkshire which gives a Maestro card and One banking which gives you a master card which you have to load.
Other people use Coop bank.
The one main thing is Make sure you put everything in your I a E also if your Kids are going to University in the 5 years.
They have set amounts but if you read the I/Ps most of them will fight your corner.
Watch out for Northern Rock they can be brutal.
Also equity in your house will be part of it if you have any.
Its not as bad as it sounds you very quickly get used to budgetinging and to be fair the creditors are reasonable.

Other than Northern Rock

Good luck the first step is always the hardest but you have taken it

You've picked a good team Simon. Michael Peoples comes highly recommended and is always posting on here.

Glad your parents are being supportive as well - it always helps.

We are here at any time of the day or night if you want any advice or support or just to offload.

ive opened a lloyds account last week while i still could which has given me a visa debit card. just got to put some money in there now.

iff it wasnt for my parents i couldnt of gone the iva route as it would of worked out at 6p in the £. so thankfully they are able to help. im praying it gets accepted and set up before xmas so i can start to breath and enjoy my life again ok on a strict budget but at least not been in the rob peter to pay paul and worrying where the next bill money is coming from

Make sure that your wages and DD's are transferred across to the new account asap.

I hope that you get sorted, but then you are with a good company.

As regards calls, you will get them. You can answer them and tell them what you are doing, ignore them, or change your number. That way you can be assured that no one will call you.

Hi Simon, it is totally natural to feel the way you are, I think at some point in all of our debt free journeys we've experienced how you're feeling right now.

You've made a wise choice with the company chosen to represent you, and I'm sure everything will go smoothly and positively for you.

The calls will happen I'm afraid and I personally took each one, however others ignored all, do whatever you're comfortable with. I also wrote to my creditors to update them periodically. All the best.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.

The worst part for me was coming to terms with what a berk I'd been spending all that money and borrowing to fund my lifestyle...

Any major change is bound to cause some worry but believe me it is so much better once you know you're on the road to recovery.

Good luck!

Same here - hubby and I were talking yesterday about other times we had been short of money but still carried on spending and borrowing.

This time it brought us up short as we couldn't get out of the hole we had dug with more money. After almost 2 years in the IVA we have learned how to budget. If we don't have any money left before hubby picks up his benefits on a Wednesday, then we can't have anything. The last time we had a take away was in the summer. In the last 12 months we will have been out on a Saturday night twice - the third time is coming up next weekend.

I just look forward to the time when my money is all mine!

I do have a takeaway probably once a month to every 6 weeks. It keeps me going and I did go to the pub tht does 2 meals for a tenner when we scattered my brothers ashes so I'm hoping to do that again for my birthday in January, my hubby's birthday is next Monday so his invite to the Frugal Friends party is night out lol x

We'll have a fab time Lesley!

Still can't find a sparkly top! I found a cracking one yesterday, but I would have had to buy leggings as well and it would have made it £55! Can't justify spending that. We'd be living on gruel for a month otherwise!
