19K on Gambling debts that's reasonably large given your income.

Gambling perceived as problem....but only'when you lose and get into debt.'
Gambling however...'not a problem...when you are winning like been blessed!'Keep you at it.

Likewise smoking not a problem if it doesn't make you ill or give out obnoxious smoke as in E cigs.

You can see why I don't see Gambling as bad.Luck is greater than skill here as some poker players would say.You need to improve you luck or don't dabble.

No gambler ever really get over the gaming paraphernalia.

You just need to control it.Thinking about family helps but only muffles that paraphernalia drive for a little while.
The iVA clears the debt but not the emotional need to gamble.

The advice sounds suspect and I hope it was not our firm that gave that out. You can only pay what you can afford regardless of how recent the debt was. To say anything else is just wrong.

If it helps I had a significant debt with one creditor that was so recent I'd only made 1 payment before the IVA.

I was pretty worried about it but they voted in favour of the arrangement!

The only creditor who voted against I'd been with for years.

You never can be 100% sure how they will vote but bear in mind most creditors do not handle IVAs themselves and as soon as they are sure the IVA is going ahead they hand it over to one of the IVA management companies who don't really care how old or new it is.

Please contact Mc Cambridge Duffy (Mike works for them). You could email Mike if you like.

We went with them and although neither of us had gambling debts the service we received throughout our IVA was 1st class.

Thanks again for your support!!

I couldn't help feel I was alone in this feeling and had no one to turn too as I know my wife couldntbtake the strain at present!!

I'm trying my best to reduce my debts now without having to let creditors know of my problems. Iv always paid my bills I work 2 jobs but have been stupid.

Not all my debt is gambling. I took a consolo dation loan and that's when iv made a grave error..

My son needs me soo I need to get on top of suicidal thoughts

It is all sounding better and hopefully you can get through this. However there is help there if you are unable to sort this yourself so keep us updated as to how it goes. Best of luck from me.

It will be a few weeks before I know the full extent of my total repayments for the debt iv accrued and if il be able to cope but it doesn't seem just as daunting.

One query I have though is that I took a recent loan out for debt consolidation.. I consolidated the debt with the best intentions and then got my self back to where I started. Would that have any implications if I took an iva or dmp? I know it doesn't look good

Thanks for all of your help so far .

It should not make a difference to your IVA or DMP as most people have consolidated before and subsequently ran the debt back up again. We once had a client who lost £35,000 on one day including a £25,000 consolidation loan that had only just been paid into his account.

OMG O.o that's crazy!! I did pay off my previous loan with it and my credit cards with all best intentions. After I assess if I will be able to cope when all my bills come in and if I can't I will call you Michael as you have been extremely helpful and informative and as well as assistance from my doctor I am feeling a lot more positive.

I look forward to it and delighted could be of help.

My previous client placed two bets of £10,000 and three bets of £5,000 which all lost. He was trying to gamble his way out of trouble but after that day's events he had nowhere else to turn and sought advice. His IVA ran the full course and was closed down a couple of years ago.

There is always light at the end of the tunnel.
