I am currently in an IVA with Freeman Jones. It is due to 'finish' in Dec / Jan 2008-9. However, I have just found out that I am pregnant (due June 26th 2008). Obviously I will not be able to work and will go on maternity leave (expected to leave work 2nd June). I do get good maternity pay (I am a teacher) but am so afraid of the costs involved with babies and I won'y be earning my full salary after June. What are my rights and obligations regarding the IVA during maternity leave? How can they take money from me if I don't have it? I am so worried about my situation and would really appreciate your experiences and views.

First of all, many congratulations on your news!! Children are our most precious gift and should be treasured.
You should not delay in ringing or e mailing your IP, they will have to have a look at things for you but I am sure you will find them very helpful.

Congratulations Anafonitria that's excellent news.

I would echo the advice of Size5 and would urge you to contact your IP as soon as is possible.

Creditors will usually be flexible in these circumstances and you may be able to agree a defferment period on your IVA. Your IP will be able to assist you further with this.

Best of luck with the Pregnancy.
Best Regards
Oliver

I think that you should be allowed a payment break if you become pregnant, as i don't think you should have to put a family on hold until after your IVA is completed. Good luck

Wow thats great news anafonitria Congratulations [:D]

I would do as the others have advised and contact your I.P as soon as possible. I think the creditors do consider that life will change in a period as big as 5 years, you may be able to make a reduce payment then make it up at the end of the IVA.

Hi
With only six payments remaining when you go on maternity you may be lucky and find that your IP will suggest to your creditors that they accept payments made to that date as full and final and conclude your IVA early.
