Hi all
We were so relieved today when both of our proposals were accepted with minimal amendments. MBNA evidently turned down both to start with but Melanie's team argued the case (thanks Hywel) and won them round. We cannot thank them enough. For all you people out there wondering whether or not to apply for IVA - we can only say this: between us we owed over £105k and somehow we were managing to pay it until one day we couldn't and it all went BANG. It took us some time to apply for IVA as we were scared that if it got turned down, bankruptcy would be the only other option. How wrong we were - with a bit of research we realise that if we got turned down we could try for a Debt Management Plan or failing that bankruptcy as a very last option. Thankfully all has turned out well for us today and we are going to be paying £961 a month between us for 5 years. It will still be tight but at least we can see the light and we feel we are doing the best we can to repay our creditors. NO MORE CREDIT CARDS EVER!!!
With feet up and a welcome glass or several of wine!!
Mr & Mrs Rockin Diner

We were all very pleased for you, and full credit must go to my colleague Hywel who looked after the proceedings at the creditors meetings - which as most IPs know can be the hardest bit.

Congratulations!! Really happy for you. We too had our joint IVA approved with similar debts to yours on Monday with the help of Melanie's team. The wonderful Hywel worked wonders for us on the day too!! It really is a great feeling of relief knowing that you are on a debt free path, it is still sinking in. Enjoy the glasses of wine!!! We really can't thank Melanie, Hywel and all enough! Now that realisation is beginning to sink in we know how awful it would have been had we been turned down. But we would've coped - after all you have to get a grip on these things - no-one's died and the world won't stop spinning tomorrow. But what a wonderful feeling to know we have a new start, debt free and we will never ever turn to credit again. Over the last two months we have pulled our horns in and started living like we mean to go on - we've economised on things but not felt like we're missing out on anything! Its all just a matter of planning and prioritising, seems so simple and why didn't we see it before??
In August this year we almost borrowed £80k over 25 years to pay off some (not all) of our debts - that would have been the equivalent of another mortgage over 25 years to be repaid until we were 75!! It would not have been enough to settle our debts - it would have kept the wolves from the door but for how long?? In all probability we would have racked up more debts on credit cards - so I thank the person who under valued our property and scuppered the deal because we had our backs to the wall then and IVA was the only viable option. Our big lesson learnt is don't borrow your way out of debt because it doesn't work.
Big big grateful thanks to Melanie and all her team.
Mr & Mrs RD

thats fantastic news rockin diner....thats two to clock up to hywel from melanies team...medals pending i think for him

like you we were about to borrow a whacking 45,000 to try and ease our situation a couple of years ago and it had actually been approved and all we had to do was go in and sign the papers....it would only have dealt with about half our debt .....we got cold feet at last moment when we realised like you that it would have taken us 25 years to repay and the total repaid was some ungodly amount that was about double that...and then two months after that we decided to start our IVA journey and havent looked back since

so sit back...enjoy the feeling...stay with us on the forum ...come to Frugal Friends and celebrate with us all......start a blog and look forward to the journey.!!!
IVA completed 11th Dec 2009 due to a Full and Final with the fantastic help of Michael Peoples and

Hey there Rockin Diner just wanted to say how heartwarming your post is! My husband and I are in the very early stages of seeking professional help for our £138k worth of debt and am thanking god that I found this forum before I formally got involved in anything. I am now in touch with Melanie and her team and am praying that it wont be long before we too can make a similar post. Our situation sounds so similar to yours and no doubt many others and my feelings of trepidation about signing my life away to an IVA or whatever have made me very nervous about going down this route. But this forum has made me realise that tackling your debt head on with an exerienced professional is much more sensible than borrowing from peter to pay paul and putting off the inevitable point at which you go pop! Thank you and happy debt free (or should I say debt well managed) days!! Please god I'll be saying the same very soon!
Regards to one and all, Fi x
Still gathering info....but hope to be on the right path pronto!!

Hi Fi. If you are with Melanie and her team you are with the very best. If she was not confident with your proposal she would not put it forward for you.
Both I and Mrs Rockin Diner have woken up this morning with a spring in our tales and in a strange way looking forward to the chalenges ahead with NO CREDIT CARDS (YIPEE).
You will get there and I look forward to hearing from you again with that all important good news from the team in Cardiff.
Best Wishes and keep in touch.
A problem shared is a problem halved.
