my current bank account is due to become a creditor if i successfully complete IVA. I understand i will need to switch to a new 'no frills' account, but how do you manage without a debit card? without wanting to sound stupid, what is an electron card and where can you use them? for example, can i use it to make online payments to say BT? or get petrol?

thanks - i will look into this account.

Also, as i am going through this alone (ie, my wife is not able to be joined as the debts are all in my name) should my wife have a separate account and if so, will she be able to run a more traditional account i.e. no overdraft (Never again) but a cheque book and debit card (Maestro etc)?

co op account is good too, online banking, direct debits, etc etc, visa electron card which I have used in most places.

No reason why your wife shouldnt have a NORMAL persons account.(us bad debtors are just pure evil!!)
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

I have a natwest step account. I have a solo debit card but I do not have a cheque book. How did you get one with yours ? I do miss mine. I also have a pre paid master card I find these handy.

When I used a Visa Electron card I found no limitations with it. BT and gas stations certainly accept them.
