I don't beleive I tried to mislead anybody into thinking the clearcash mastercard is a current account. It is a solution though for somebody looking for a current account that have not been able to get that facility as what was described by the OP. I have not knocked any other solution offered by anybody else so pleasde don't knock mine. Yes I agree That Melanie is a great proffessional who I have the utmost respect for as I have always said and who always offers good advice and yes if Melanie recommends something you can be sure it is ok and I don't beleive I have said to the contrary. But that does not mean it is the only solution available. The OP indicated that they could not get a current account and the clearcash card is a suitable alternative so it would be nice if this could be accepted on the forum as an alternative as I accept it is not the only option available.

I am sure the Co-op will sort them out - any paid for solution is something which should always be tried as a last resort.

Jan on the C0-0P web site their basic account is advertised for adverse credit customers; also when I spoke to them on the 'phone they said that once an IVA has been satisfactorily completed then after 6 months a full account will be offered<J

I agree that the co-op cashminder is a solution for the OP.

That is great news. The Co-op have always been very supportive to customers in financial difficulties, and it is certainly the bank I would most recommend to my own clients looking for just basic account facilities. The Nat West do come a close second, as they are more supportive to business people as well.

Natwest refused me an account but accepted Wonder, try and work that one out. Neverless the Natwest is another solution and to be honest I would have preffered them to the CO-OP.

I'm fortunate that we already had a basic Flex account with Nationwide as well as the full Barclays Account. I still have the Barclays account, but don't use it as they were one of my creditors.

I would have gone with the Co-op though otherwise.

I have a co-op account but the online banking is very basic and just not me really but it does what it says on the tin. The nationwide account I have doesn't offer a debit card but the online banking is better than the co-op.

I really like the online banking with Nationwide. I only have a cash card, but that does for us. All the bills are DD and shopping is done with cash, so I'm happy with that.

I know exactly what comes out each month and when and I just check to make sure it does, and on the rare occasions I pay anyting in, I make sure the payment has gone through.

Yes we can agree on something Jan [:D] the online banking at nationwide is good. Pity they aren't a bit more lenient on the debit card issue as they would provide an excellent solution to people in an iva.

When we went for the account, our credit rating was good but they wouldn't give us a full flex account. We went to Barclays and got a full account complete with credit cards - big mistake!

We just switched back to NW when we started the IVA as we had no credit with them at all, and we have had great service from them.

my nationwide account was an old one as well but went to lloyds tsb but like you had to revert back as they were our main creditor.

Hi
The clearcash account seems good but doesn't address the real problem with all these prepaid cards i;e the inability of paying direct debits.
There are many pre paid cards in the market place and are very useful, however they really can't replace the conventional bank account. I think that the Co-op Cashminder is universally accepted by the experts as the best High St account to recommend. If this or any other High St account is unavailale then I think the Secure Trust or Think Banking should be recommended.
Of course everyone is free to recommend as they see fit.
Regards
Andam Davies

I was just like to make clear that I have never intended to suggest that that the clearcash icount is a current account. However it is an option to anyone who can't get a current account as the OP stated and don't see any reason why it can't be recommended on the forum as an alternative as well as the secure trust and think banking.
