My creditors are meeting today to decide my IVA. Terrified does not cover it. My step-mother in law (complicated) made matters worse by telling my partner that I should stop complaining about having to pay back money owed, that people in debt annoy her and if she can't afford it she does without. A very archaic attitude, and given my depression she really hasn't helped the situation. I will keep you all informed, but I am crying now :(

Fingers crossed for you -- let us know how it goes.

Strangely enough -- when life in an IVA settles down, you will start thinking the same as the s-m.i.l. regarding doing without what you cannot afford ( but maybe not quite so judgementally )
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

Thank you. I have been living like that for a while now. She is right with the 'going without' remark, that's fine. It's the fact that she is so discompassionate about it all. I'm sorry my debt has annoyed her, but I owe her nothing.

Fingers crossed for you today.

Try not to take MIL's comments to heart. I know it's easier said than done but it's not worth letting it get to you. My MIL has no idea about my debts and long may it stay that way as she would make your's sound like a ***** cat!

Let us know how you get on today x

haha, that was quite funny. Will let you know how it goes. My parents don't know either but I think that's because they would be ashamed and then would try their best to help me out. I'm almost 30 so I want to pay my debts myself. I was big and clever enough to get into them. I also don't want to owe my parents money! :S

My Mum was great when I told her and offered to release equity from her home to help me. I said no as it was my mess and down to me to sort out. She was really supportive and, when my IVA failed and I told her I was going BR, she told me not to worry as 'everyone's doing it'! I'm not sure about that but it made her feel better!

I would love to tell my parents but I am ashamed and worried about the same reaction as my smil. I think it would explain why I'm working so hard and why I can't afford to fly home to see them often. My mum is a born worrier so I don't want to stress. My meeting is in a few minutes.

Just had the call! All sorted at £100 a month with the creditors requesting a reduction in fees that my IP was charging and reserving the discretion to allow my IP to charge an adjustment meeting fee. So here we go. 60 payments to go. Here's to the future!!

Welcome to the debt free road!
