Can I just say in defence of Dave that he is valued member of the forum, and he has offered me and a lot of others support during the difficult times. As he said, he was commenting on the lenders, not having a dig at anyone.

I do agree with what he is saying - the lenders do need to take some responsibility for the level of debt in this country. I had debts of £65k on a salary of £1300 per month. That included 2 loans which came to a total of £42k, and maxed out credit cards counted for the rest. I was always honest about what I owed when I applied, but was still given credit despite the high level of debt I already had.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

i agree with skippy i dont think dave meant to be hurtful in any way but to make a point how can you rack up so much debt is it your fault or the lenders?
dave is no way being sanctimonious, he is offering his opinion

Thanks to Ang, Skippy and Kerri for your support. I was horrified to find that somebody thought I was having a go at them because of their situation. Hopefully TheDerbyRam will see my reply and realise my criticism was aimed at the ease with which we all managed to obtain credit.

Thanks again

Dave

Hi
I would just like to add that Dave is a valued forum member and the post was not meant to offend.I agree with Daves comments regarding how the banks etc can loan out over 100k on an income of £1100,surely there must be checks that they can make during the application process regarding income and expenditure. The credit reference files do show the amount of credit taken so surely they can identify if someone is over committed.
To Derby Ram
I can understand that you felt that it was a comment aimed at yourself but be assured that no one will judge you on this forum, afterall we are all,or have been,in the same boat.
Please keep posting
