she didnt say she just said I should really have a dmp for a few months first as mine was not a strong case. She agreed I had about £230 disposable income slightly more than Nationaldebtline allowed. Maybe because Lloyds is over 50% of my debt? I dont know, was so hopeful yesterday now just feel lost again. She also said about my council tax going into IVA, dont really want to do that as is priority debt, so want to include that as part of my monthly expenditure. Arrrrgghh

As has been said previously, there are many good IPs out there, so if you didn't feel comfortable, try some of the others. Some great ones post on here and see www.iva.com for reviews.

yes I guess I will need to make some more calls, she did however advise me to make token payments to all creditors... I am so confused.. as I was advised not to pay creditors ... I would have to make a token payment to all creditors of same amount, but that is silly because some I owe £200 some I owe £11000, this is becoming more confusing every time I speak to someone..

My husband did not make token payments instead he saved the money which he sent to his IP Melanie Giles when he returned the signed proposals so that she has the first payment in hand should the proposal be accepted. Bar two of his creditors who have been a nuisance the remainder have accepted that and awaiting Melanie after the creditors meeting. J

I don't think there is a hard and fast rule with regard to payment of creditors at this stage. If you can see your resolution in place in the the short term (i.e. and DMP or IVA setup within 4-5 weeks) then I would stop paying creditors altogether. If you think it may take a bit longer then perhaps making token payments (if you can afford them) may keep the creditors off your back to some extent.
It sounds like you need to speak to someone quickly (if only to get you to stop worrying). Get calling straight away!

Again dont worry, I didnt make any token payments, I was advised to, so I paid everyone £5, they kept on phoning saying it wasnt enough, one creditor even put it another payment through for the following week, saying she did it accidentally. The reason for the £5 to all is that you are not allowed to favour any one creditor over another.

I decided that the £5 token payments were not going to make any impact on what I owed and it was causing me more stress, especially as debts get sold on and the companies kept on changing.

It will be sorted soon, youre on your way now. Phone a couple more if youre not happy, if you think you have found the right company go with it.

I think its difficut at first when youre changing bank accounts and trying to keep track of everything.

If youre unsure, phone back and ask for clarification.

Take care now, I realise how awful this time is, hang on a little longer and you will see a way through the fog.

I didn't make any token payments and my IVA was still accepted. I think it depends which IP you are using as to whether you are advised to make token payments or not.

Sparklywatcher, I was in the same position, snowed under at work plus the financial pressures at home. My job was one of the few good things going for me but this was been jeopardised by my worries. I know it will be difficult but try to take 30mins at lunch and call some IPs. If you are like me you will not be able to concentrate properly until you taken steps as far as you can.

I was told to make them and I was with the same company as Skip initially. I think it just depends what operator you speak to. I dont think its really going to make that much difference, its a minor detail really.

Try to focus on work now and see what happens with the company you phoned. If youre not happy you could try some more, they will always ring you back at a time convenient to you.

Good luck

yes may take some time out at lunchtime and call around... but now have been told I do not have strong enough case for IVA am thinking that I may have no choice other to continue paying all my debts as I have been until eventually I go under... as I will eventually run out of credit to live on..

Listen hun. Thats not an option is it? I know its hard for you right now, believe me I know what its like to be knocked back time and time again. You must not give up hope, to use credit to live on now will just get you into a deeper mess.

You still have the option of a DMP, there are many companies out there who will help you with this.

Try to stay positive just for little longer, if IVA isnt for you, it isnt for you hun.

I do understand how bad you must be feeling and trying to cope with your job is so difficult with all of this weighing you down. I know how it feels to wish you could just be someone else for an hour just for a bit of relief from it all. There will be another way forward, you just have to keep on looking.

Love and hugs

Thanks Lily, I just feel so frustrated at it all. My concern is a DMP will not stop the creditors have hassling me all the time and I dont think I can cope with that on top of everything else

There are many examples of people with low DI (about £200 or less) getting an IVA approved. Also, if you have a professional company looking after your DMP, they will handle the creditors for you and although its an informal arrangement, once in place creditors will usually honour the agreement.
