30 months has passed and i can tell you it feels like 300[V]if you are going into an iva i cant stress enough about the expenditure list you need to add every direct debit and payment to this leave nothing as it comes to bite you.i have 4 children and its a struggle to cloth and feed them on the money thats left and xmas and birthdays are a nightmare ,forget about holidays,if i was starting again i would start by getting an allotment to grow my own veg and potatoes and a few hens then at least you will have some food to eat.sorry to sound like this to some going into one but i made mistakes at the start with small amounts that make a difference and at the meeting creditors asked for an extra 60 pounds that just wasnt there

i will say 1 thing about the iva firm i am with they are very good and understanding and prompt with any querys i have and also no fees up front it usually can take 8 weeks to start one so they took 2 average payments from me before it started which looked good to the creditors at the meeting and because of this i was able to get a payment holiday at xmas (which was a god send) because of overpayments.they only ever get in touch at the review stage which is every 12 months. because i know at the start it is a nightmare choosing which 1 to go with i can add a link to the firm but i need to know from admin if this is ok to do so i will leave till i get a reply

Just wanted to say welcome to the Forum ... it's always good to hear of people's experiences when they are further down the IVA path as there are so many just setting out ... and your wisdom to others will be a great benefit to the Forum.

Of course, growing our own veg etc. to feed our families is what many of our parents had to do ... sometimes the simple things in life can be the best [:)]

How else have you managed? Could you give us any useful money saving tips or advice? ... I am sure that others would find it very useful. Keep posting, you can help others [:)]

Hello Dry dry rot and welcome to the forum. You are absolutely right it’s vital to include all your expenditure at the beginning I forgot a couple but fortunately they are quite small and I will include them at my review. I am sorry to hear of your difficulties. We also have 4 children our food/toiletries allowance is £580 a month is that similar to your allowance? I have ‘down branded’ a lot of our groceries and save about £50 a month doing that
We were hoping to use our contingency allowance to save for birthdays/xmas but we had to use it all to pay for gearbox repair so it’s back to zero!
I am pleased to hear you have a good IVA firm let’s hear who they are [:)]
My thanks to Melanie and her team :)
