Sorry rob was descended on by the grand kids and when they go major mess!! Yes I have an iva ours is an interlocking one wher ther was one proposal and one monthly payment. Personally it has been the best thing that i have ever done, however we do not own property and so no equity release which makes things a little simpler. I am always saying this but a good livable expenditure, a good IP, researching everything, looking at all options and understanding everything down to the last detail is so important. If you stretch yourself at the beginning then it will only get harder.
Read my blog it tells all.
Best of luck mate.

Back from the weekend.

Another question has arisen. WHat is a reasonable fee for IVAs? I have been speaking to some IPs trying to arrange a meeting, specifically as I would like to talk face to face with someone, and am having no luck, everyone wants to contact me by phone. not convienient at work!!

The one company (local) that has agreed to see me, says that to make the IVA arrangement proposal they charge £3000! Is that reasonable? or is that taking the proverbial?

Cheers for any advice.

Rob

Whereabouts do you live Rob? I may be able to find an IP for you prepared to meet on a face to face basis - however under our best practice code all IPs are supposed to offer you a face to face meeting!

How far would you be prepared to travel to meet an IP, as some will be happy to meet you in the evening or at a weekend as well.

And yes I do think that taking £3k off you before doing any work is unacceptable. In my own practice, we meet all of our clients on a face to face basis if they want to, and we do not take any monies on an up front basis. This is not unique in the industry, but is also deemed to be best practice.

Thank you for the reply!

I live in Southampton, and I have taken all day off on 14th February. I am meeting with the CAB at 9.30 am and then with the people mentioned above at 11.30 am, so any time after that, or in an evening would be good.

Thank you so much for your help.

Robert

Also another thought. Will an IVA affect my right to practice as a member of the Associations of Tax Technitions? Which I need to be a member of for the purposes of my job?

Thanks

Rob
Hi Rob

I work in the accountancy profession, which I am hazarding a guess you do as well. The rules aren't as strict as they used to be from what I can work out. I have an AAT, and there is no problem with me being in an IVA. Bankruptcy may be different.

Hope it works out well for you! [:)]

On the South Coast I would recommend Sue Stockley of Fanshawe Lofts - they have offices in Southampton and Sue is a personal insolvency specialist. Although she is based in their Bath office - I am sure that she covers both.

Thank you both for your replies. I dig out a number and give them a call.

Cheers
