Don't let them get you down...I was determined to deal with the calls initially but I have unplugged the house phone and ignore numbers I don't know on the mobile now.

I had to speak to MBNA the other day as they rang me at work so I callled them back later, very bullying, telling me that if I didn't make payment they would say no to the IVA and sell the debt to doorstep colletors, blah blah blah.

They are nothing but bullies.

Even if they do get debt collectors involved - they may not call and they are usually very polite when they do and you explain the situation to them.

You hear so many stories about creditors and their varying methods of debt collection, whatever suits you I always say, I personally paid none but spoke to all, I do agree it's an awful time but once you get acceptance within a few months these call will cease and the relief this brings will be immense and it hopefully won't be long for you now.

I paid none and spoke to none until the day my IVA was accepted.

I did write to all of them though - not that they took any notice of what was in them![:D]

Sounds like MBNA have a reputation. They were the only ones to 'Demand' that I make a payment (their words). It is horrible speaking to them but in my mind, I remember that I am sorting this out and the person on the end of the line has a crap job. If they are happy to bully people in trouble, they actually have worse problems than any of us.

Nicinamess I spoke to MBNA at the outset of my IVA process on 12 Sep 09 and as you will see had a far differant experience with them. Since the 12th Sep they did not contact me until late last week when they sent me a letter to tell me if I do not make proper payment my credit could be affected.

From 12 Sep 09

"Just received correspondance from MBNA on behalf of my Virgin Credit Card stating they were aware of my seeking an IVA and wished to speak to me.

I telephoned the MBNA Insolvency Team and have to admit they were much more understanding and sympathetic to my situation then I expected would be the case. They also advised that in my current situation they would be more inclined to "support" my IVA application then to look at a DMP or other plan that they may be able to offer.

They also advised that it may be best for me to speak to ALL my creditors, explain the situation and see how they felt in regards to an IVA proposal, as although not cast in stone, it would give me a general idea on how the creditors would be voting.

All in all a very good conversation and all they expected is that I keep them up to speed with how my proposal is processing."

I most certainly could not work in a creditors call centre and phone people up and bully them.

I get so annoyed when these firms say they will put your account on hold, and then they keep phoning!

It's the frequency of the calls as well - dozens every day.

Agreed Kallis...nor me but then a jobs a job I suppose and in these times some cannot be too picky.

I think some of these Companies are so big the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at times, therefore they ring several times or ask you whats happening, even after you have told them by phone or correspondance.

Then again how hard can it be to update a file on a PC?

I never say never as in this day and age I might be grateful of a job, even one that I feel uncomfortable doing, I'm sure they work to script and basically they're doing they're job.

Mind I'm sure some get more pleasure out of it than others as there are always some bullies in the workplace.

I sometimes take delight in saying to a student who has probably been very awkward throughout the course, I'm sorry on this occasion it wasn't a pass and can be a very mean marker when required! he he!

Thanks Pennyless, good to know.

I was extremely firm last week and they have left me alone, they are going to call this week to find out if I have my creditors date (6th Nov), I would have thought that they would be informed but the call centres seem to be out of the loop. Percentage wise MBNA are owed the smallest amount by me so I'm hoping that whichever way they go won't effect the 75% too much. My bulk is with Santander and my IP has said that they don't tend to bother voting. We shall see.

I had a thought that if I were to pass a fellow Frugal Friend in the street, I would recognise them as we all have our fingers and toes crossed!

Lesley - what are you like![:D]

I couldn't do that job even if I was desperate. I couldn't trade on other people's misery.

Having seen the Channel 4 programme from a few months ago, most of them delight in sounding all sympathetic on the phone and then laughing their socks off once they have finished.

You have to have a very cruel streak to be able to do that.

Nic, my MBNA debt is about 4%, Santander about 23% and the dreaded Northern Rock 25% the next in line are Nationwide circa 10%, RBS 10%, Egg 12.5% and ruddy Barclaycard 1.5%! There are others which are quite small % wise.

My total debt is about £44k. Santander (combined loan, overdraft and credit card- they buy everything!) is around £31k of that, MBNA is £3.5k and John Lewis is just under £9k. I have to sit down and work out the percentages but you can see where most of my eggs are.
