It is hard not to worry,, I am up at 6am every morning, leave for work at 7.15am. I lie awake trying to find a defining moment when it all started to go wrong (money wise) not found it yet. but I do feel such a fool to have squandered our chance to be set up financially at our age. I get upset if I look back at what we had & how debt has ruined things for us.
But we are strong & will hopefully start to put an end to it soon, only my wife & I know our situation,, I dont think its fair to burden our 25 & 23 year old son/Daughter who are doing very well without the help of credit, they seem a lot wiser than me now,, although I remember when I was in my 20's & didnt use credit at all, I think it started in our 30's it was just so easy.
Anyway enough of my moaning,, LOL,,, BTW. took me nearly 12 months to sort out my mess, looked around for IP's ,, looked at reviews etc,, & Melanie & her team came highly reccomemded so I think we are both in good hands with our IVA proposals.
good luck with yours to.
Kind Regards, MP

IVA accepted 1st October 2009

I think we've all laid awake trying to work out where it went wrong, so you're not alone on that one Mikepapa!

The important thing is that you've taken steps to deal with the problem rather than burying your head in the sand and hoping it'll all go away.

You're in safe hands with Melanie, and I'm sure you'll be posting good news on 24th x

Hi Pennyless! Like you we've just started the IVA process - sent our mountain of paperwork off to Vincent Bond today, and are awaiting our letter of confirmation this week from the Co-Op that our Cashminder account is open. Starting to feel like a weight has been lifted already, we too have 7 credit cards and 2 loans between us, and thanks to a large overdraft have been in exactly the same situation as you - robbing Peter to pay Paul! We just can't carry on like this and need to be debt-free. It's so good to hear someone else is in the same boat as us - hopefully we'll all be sorted in a few weeks!

Hi rainbowofhope I never honestly realised how much I have in common with others until I came across these forums, then I realised that I wasn't the only one who had loads of debt and that there were so many people out there that could help.

As you say hopefully we'll be sorted in a few weeks and maybe whilst on the journey to becoming debt free in 5/6 years we can assist everyone else who is lucky enough to find these forums.

Fingers crossed!

I always felt I was the only person in the world in debt when I first realised I had a problem. I looked into IVA's came across this forum and the rest as they say is history. I'm 21 months in and finely rehabilitating myself for my debt free future.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Well today has been spent having a further house valuation done and cancelling/changing the myriad of Direct Debits from my old account to my new Co-Op account.

At the same time I managed to reduce the payments on mine and the wifes redundancy covers which were dependant on the amount of our monthly mortgage payment....another saving to go in the creditors pocket.

Hopefully you're taking comfort in the fact that you are now dealing with everything and that the firm you've approached regularly gets praised on here.

Don't concern yourself too much with phone calls either. Just keep your polite tone when informing the creditors of the IVA and who you're being assisted by and I expect you'll be left in peace.

Yes Angela I agree and will ensure that I am polite when they start ringing, after all I cant blame them for chasing after their cash, I just hope they dont get too heavy handed or ring several times each day......otherwise I'll have to get hold of elv's Macaw!

Pennyless - you may like to know that my husband's major creditor co-operated all the way along the road because, to quote their words exactly, "your husband has an honourable IP". They were talking of Melanie. Mentioning her name to callers is a good idea. J
