Hi Paul,

Glad to support, It really helps me to talk to other who are going through this process at roughly similar stages,

The realisation dawned at the beginning of October that we could no longer rob Peter to pay Paul, after a false start and nearly going with one of the IVA factories we got in touch with Melanie's team.
We have sent in all our paperwork and Angela rang last week to say that our proposal was being drafted this week and we would get a call to go through the figures, next week hopefully we will speak with Melanie herself and then sign off our proposal to go to creditor's meeting.

November was the first month we did not pay our creditor's and calls and letters are coming thick and fast, I found that difficult at first but now I am handling them ok. Sometimes I refuse to confirm my personal details and then they can't discuss my case, depends when they catch me really.
I get paid again tomorrow and have budgetted really well (surprisingly) even had to find £50 when our washer broke. Luckily we have lots of food in the freezer so just cut back on shopping for a week. I still ahve the IVA money in the bank ready for our IVA.

I still worry a lot of the time and really wish we could get to our creditor's meeting. Trying to be patient but it is really really hard.

I am terrified that something will go wrong but trying to stay positive.

We are now going into week 6 since we first chatted with Tina so I hope that things will move swiftly from here.

Keep your chin up, we are all here to support each other.

Your creditors meeting isn't actually a meeting billy. The creditors vote by phone or fax, and sometimes they vote a few days before, and of course they may not all vote.

Billy

Your file is in my briefcase as we speak, and I will be working on it personally over the next couple of days. Hope to speak tomorrow to set up the formal meeting.

We are busy - but so is every other insolvency professional in this country - and client service is absolutely paramount to the success of our company and we do take this very seriously.

hi Paul,

Thanks for the lovely message of support.

In the first bleak days when we didn,t know which way to turn this forum was a lifeline. I have learnt so much and had support through those very dark early days when you really don't know what to do.

Letting go of credit was a very scary thing to do, but also a very liberating one. I have not used a credit card for over 6 weeks
(early days I know) and this is the first time in over 10 years that credit cards have not been part of out daily existence. We have managed really well and it has done wonders for my self esteem. I am determined to suceed and turn my back on debt once and for all.

If sharing my experiences can help or support just 1 person to get out of the misery of debt then posting here is worthwhile.

Take care Paul and thankyou also for your support.

oh this was a nice post to read, everyone being so supportive is great and i have always found that with this forum. i too am with melanie and in week 6 and hopfuly my proposal will be sorted next week- howell (i think) is calling me monday to go through it. not really sure what you discuss then or what exactly happens after? hopfully wil be sorted this year but not sure if it will be. do they give creditors 2 or 3 weeks to consider proposal? everything feels like it takes ages and yep got all the letters and calls loads now but i think im meaner to them than they are to me lol :)

Hi Rochelle,

My IVA process lasted 8 weeks in total but I guess it depends on the complexity of the proposal as everyone's circumstances are different, mine was fairly quick coz like me it was pretty simple[:)]

anything from 6-12 weeks seems to be the average so touch wood it will be over before Xmas!

Hi there

You are in really safe hands with Mel and team, they are fab and will get you through everything.

Don't worry about being pushy, I called and spoke to the office everytime I was worried and always was given reasurance or advice.

Tina was the first person I spoke to, and I had the great pleasure of meeting her at the last frugal friends meeting and can honestly say she is as lovely and genuine in person as she comes accros on the phone and it was great to thank her in person.

The forum will also support and help you both trough the whole thing also, so post whenever you need help or support x
Be positive & look after yourself, there are more important things in life than debts....

Best Wishes

Emma x

Don't worry, Rochelle and Billy - ours took longer than most because it was out of the ordinary and I pestered Hywel mercilessly. However, it has proved a blessing in disguise (although it didn't seem so at the time). We now have our second payment due in a few days and, in the intervening period have built up a decent bank balance so we are starting on a sound footing. It's an altogether new experience to have a credit balance from pay-day to pay-day. Try to be patient - better to wait a while and get the proposal right than rush things through. The feeling at the end is great - better than passing your driving test or finding the black one in the fruit gums!!

Hey Rochelle, good luck with your proposal, you're in safe hands and Hywell is lovely. Hopefully it will all be done and dusted before Christmas. X

Thankyou John for your lovely message of support.

I am so trying to be patient, I am sure that we are with the right IP and the customer service when I call is always excellent.

Will just be glad when things are up and running, making the decision to do an IVA is a difficult one, stopping paying creditor's is a difficult move even if we were robbing from one to pay the other. Convincing my hubby that we couldn't keep soldiering on getting deeper and deeper into debt. Now we have reached that point of acceptance and I look forward to the day when hopefully everything is sorted and I can plan our debtfree future.

So glad you got your's sorted and stories like yours give me renewed hope that ours will be ok.

Thanks J

Hi all,
Melanie and her team have contacted me ( As Melanie promised she would , the very next morning )and hopefully I will be speaking to someone on Monday regarding my proposal. Tina who was due to contact me has been ill, so things obviously got backed up. If Melanie reads this post , Thank you for getting back to me and letting me know so quickly.

I'm looking forward to the call and dreading it at the same time, but that said reading all the other posts from people that Melanie and her team deal with, I'm sure the advice we get will be spot on.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice,

Paul.

Ive found Tina to be superb and always comes back to my emails really quickly. I am also at the nail biting stage as I am waiting for one more piece of info from MBNA to get my proposal drawn up, it feels like its been dragging but its only been about 5 weeks since I made the first call. I'm hoping it can be done before Xmas so that I can try to enjoy it!
