So why wasn't a higher offer made in the first place? I feel that you have been badly advised, as no creditors these days are going to accept £600 for food for 3 people! Does your IP do a lot of IVA work, as I am amazed that this would have been presented for you. And importantly, what do you actaully spend on food?

If you feel that you could afford to pay more, then say so. Let the IP be embarrassed to explain to your creditors that he got the figures wrong in the first place, and perhaps this will save other unfortunate people from being put through this in the future.

You don't need CCCS or Payplan at this moment in time. Get your IP to adjourn the proceedings today, and get a second opinion as to the proposals presented. I am sure that there is still an IVA in this somewhere, if that is the way you still want to go.

Bev,
Creditors are not daft, your IP cannot just go with any £££ that debtors demands. What IVA company is advising you? Creditors have seen load of IVAs and if they thinks one has an I/E that sounds like Breakfast at Tiffanys they are going to say a big FAT NO.

Save your IVA if you can, DMP is only a TEMPORARY solution with your debt

Post your I/E please

Was that figure purely for food or to include all housekeeping products and toiletries as well?

We have put down £420 for ours (meeting on 6th) but that is including food, all cleaning products, and nappies etc for our baby due in 3 weeks

Melanie - when you say get a second opinion regarding my proposal - do you mean revisit this with my IP or discuss it with another IP in another company?

I would do both. If your IP thinks you are seeking advice outside of his own, it may make him think a little harder about what he has put forward for you. But make that call about adourning the proceedings today.

I & E

approx (havent got exact figures)

£600 food
£600 rent (parents) and council tax, electricity, water and gas
£325 petrol (I do over 100 miles to work and back every day and drive a 2.2 litre car) - no way to take public transport as i can be called out to clients anywhere with short notice.
£100 - phone, internet and sky
£40 gym
£40 dental and bupa
£75 wear and tear on car
£225 parking (i need to park my car in a city centre car park) - my employer pays me a car allowance which was included in my net salary as it is a requirement of my job that i need a car - if i lost my licence for example, i would not be able to do my job
Cant remember the rest but total I & E was around £2300. It was actually what was being spent. But maybe IP should have advised that this wasnt going to be accepted. Am prepared to cut back on things (not car related though) to get IVA through - can I go back to my IP and insist on this, or can I go to another IP?

i am so surprised that they put gym payments down, and private health care, there is an £80 saving at least, could you not down grade the car to a smaller vehicle just trying to think of options. my expenditure for a family of 5 in BR is less than what they have put down for you, and my hubby has to drive 40 mile trip a day to get back and forward to work, i really hope your IP sorts this for you.

Hi
Steady Sonse2t5
Let's keep focused on the issues here,Beverley has been ill advised here and has been kind enough to list the expenditure. We need to give advice and support.
First question, are you actually paying parents £600 per month and if so can you get his reduced to £2-300 per month ?

Hi Beverley, those figures do seem quite high. You have put down £600 for food - is that just for you or is does that include your parents as well? Could you reduce your Sky / internet package? Basic Sky including the internet and phone is £26 a month and for an extra £5 all phone calls are free. I think you will need to scrap your gym membership as that is £40 that is not esential. Although you are entitled to a dental allowance you will probably have to do away with Bupa.

I hope you don't think I'm being critical but I'm trying to look at this in the same way as a creditor.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

If its any help I was allowed £480 for food for 2 adults and 2 teenagers,£30 for 2 mobiles,£20 for sky,£40 for homephone and internet.

I think that you should definately get a second opinion from another practitioner, even if just to get a rounded view of things. That expenditure does look very high, but of course there may be special circumstances for this which should have been explained to your creditors properly.

Thanks for everyone's replies. If it wasnt for advice that I received on this forum I would have made a critical mistake and accepted the decision. Thanks to Melanie I have got a second opinion. I went back to my IVA company and the person I spoke to yesterday apologised as he said that he made mistakes and his advice after my iva got rejected was a knee jerk reaction and he admitted to his mistake.

This forum is a goldmine of information - thank you to everyone.

Hi Beverley
Just wanted to wish you luck with getting your issues sorted and hopefully you can still propose a good iva and get it accepted.
Good luck
