Secured debts are unaffected by bankruptcy proceedings, unless you choose to or cannot afford to pay them, and then they are able to enforce their security. If this leaves a shortfall, then this debt can be included in the bankrutpcy.

The Official Receiver will not inform your employers.

Thanks Melanie for the advice. I read elsewhere that you get put on a 0 tax code so I suspect your employer will find out through that? After the three years are some people able to get mortgages?

Hi,
My husband and I took out a loan with First Plus in 2002 for 40.000
In 2003 found out I was pregnant with my daughter when I gave up work could no longer afford Mortgage and Secured Loan. We were told we also had to take out PPI. We eventually had to sell our house in 2005, because we just could not cope. After paying three years at 476.00 per month to first plus totalling 17,000 we had to pay back 52.000 to them when we sold our house. Taking out loan with them was deffinately the worst thing we ever did. Ended up walking away from the house we loved with nothing. (gutted) hence now having to rent a property.
