Dear Forum

Does anyone know if it is ok to enter into an IVA and work for a Local Authority?

I am currently considering entering into an IVA, but having recently spoken to National Debtline for advice, they mentioned that it may be possible that I would not be able to enter into an IVA as I work for a Local Authority???!!!

I work as a Ranger, so am not involved in any financial dealings or anything.

What professions are exempt from entering into an IVA?

Cheers!

Hi Snowman

I am not aware of any reason why you would be excluded on the grounds of employment. I would recommend that you read your contract of employment and then make an ananoymous call to your HR department to double check the situation just incase there is some small print in your employment contract.

Next step is to choose VERY CAREFULLY an Insolvency Practitioner that will represent you for the duration of the IVA and won't change their spots as soon as you are signed up.

You can check the iva.com website for IP comparrisons but it is a little embarrasing for Melanie & her team as they seem to have such a high satisfaction level from everyone of their clients.

Please check it out - you could do an awful lot worse.

There will be no problem in you applying for an IVA. I have lots of local authority workers as clients, and have never ever seen one having a problem with an IVA application. I do wonder about the quality of advice given on this helpline sometimes!
