I am currently 21 months into my IVA and i am thinking about changing service provider to Virgin Media as it is lot cheaper and i am not happy with BT as they are ripping me off with hidden and buried charges even though i have been paying by direct debit every month.
i rang VIRGIN MEDIA today to opt for there phone and broadband package and all was going swimmingly until all of a sudden they asked to do a Credit Check and now i am wondering whether i will be able to transfer to Virgin which is miles cheaper or i will have to stay with BT who are near enough ripping me off.
I s it just a basic credit check and will it fail because of the IVA
It is possible that you won't be able to do it Andrew. I don't know what Virgin's criteria is.
I presume they are going to get back to you?
Have you tried speaking to BT to sort it out with them? I'm with BT and the only thing I have been unhappy with is the broadband service, but that has been fine just lately.
I haven't had any hidden charges at all.

I have switched to Virgin in the last few months and there were no problems on the credit check. I believe it has more to do with what Andy has mentioned in the previous reply.
Just rang them to enquire and Andy you was absolutely right.
I had no problems with the credit check and am transferring to Virgin.
Kallis , i have had nothing but trouble with BT even though i have been a loyal customer to them for 4 years with there Broadband and Phone Service.
The problems i have had with them are being charged £200 for work they never did and burieng the charge within the bill.
Excessive hidden charges and all different amounts being taken out of my Account by Direct Debit.
When i ring them they keep saying that the £200 is being refunded and then it isn't and every time i ask what the total of my Bill is they keep coming out with all different amounts and now they are saying they never recieved any payment in July when it is as plain as day on my Bank Statement that i did pay.
When your in an IVA you can't afford to be mucked about like this and the alternative is too find somewhere cheaper.
Good luck with Virgin, if past experience is anything to go by you'll need it!
They're so backward that we can't even have digital in our area. Despite that, when we were moving they told us we could have their services and would I like to book an installation. As I'd worked for them I queried whether the area was digital and was told no, it would be an analogue installation! And the point of that is what?!?!

There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !
I'm stuck with BT for the time being, and to be fair, since we had new equipment we haven't had any problems (touch wood!).
I shall probably switch to Sky next year though.

i moved from talktalk to virgin just before my iva was done.
i was paying less but the service was utter crap.
soon as i said i was moving they were falling over themselves to make it better.
since being with virgin i have had not one bit trouble.
also i didnt get all the phone calls from creditors before it was passed(only my good fortune as i didnt think about that when i switched)
ive been with virgin over a year now and was wondering how i stood if i got my daughter a pay as you go deal with them on my account, would they do a credit check or just add it to my bill at the end of the month.
cc received 6th January 2014 now upwards and onwards
by the way i got sky as well for tv(always had them right back to analougue days)they are ok but for broadband they use adsl and thats a bit hit and miss, you cannot beat cable broadband for speed.
any idea about mobiles tho?

We've got Sky broadband and it's excellent, much better than BT, and we only pay £5 a month for it! As I said, Virgin are so backward that we can't have high speed internet here either. It wouldn't be so bad if we lived out in the sticks but we don't!
The thing that put me off Virgin mobile is that they use the T-mobile network, which has the worst coverage out of the main service providers.
