I've been thinking about this for the past couple of days and in light of some bad press over IVA's I just want to say that although I am not proud of getting myself into so much debt, I am proud with myself with recognising and dealing with the problem and seeking the appropriate help and I've never hidden the fact that we work to a budget, we are in an IVA and people can do what they like with that info. Yes there has been and will be struggles & hardship some months but the positive light at the end of the tunnel shines through and reassures me with the knowledge that in April 2011 I will be debt free and then along come the babies...

I agree with your thoughts 100% louisa.s and - despite the negative points we read about IVAs - they give you a real second chance. Having my IVA approved has literally changed my life. Unlike you I have decided not to tell other people about my IVA (Insolvency Register permitting!!!) - I am not really sure quite why.

I wish you Good Luck with the babies in 2011 - I am looking forward to 2 weeks on the Costa Del Sol in 2012. It seems a lifetime away but I am determined to see things through.
47 months completed - 13 months to go.

I agree also, our iva has changed our life 100% for the better, no terrible worry or stress as before. We too decided not to tell family, it would not be a problem as we have never hidden our debts from them, and should the need arise we will quite happily tell them, but hubby wants to take them all for a slap up chinese in a limo in 2011 and tell them then that we are debt free. Maybe we should have a reuinion in 2014 and see how we are all doing, louisa can bring her babies, hubby and I will be even fatter from eating too much chinese and optimist will have a great suntan. lol
We will all get there, it seems a long way off but my first year has flown and heres to the other four doing the same.

Hello.

Yes it is really nice to hear such positivity and i wish you all the luck in the world with becoming debt free in 2011!.

If i can offer you any advise its to try your hardest to keep the payments up. I can remeber 18 months ago when i felt exactly the same as you do. 'In 60 months i would be debt free' but due to falling behind and the incredible charges applied to this even though a have been paying into my IVA for 18 months i still have 63 months left so in 3 months times it will be like starting all over again. :-(

Good luck and keep positive!

Thanks for the advice Nathan. We do have our grey days and at point consider ditching it but thought better of it and just decided to work harder at achieving success! We will be proposing a variation soon as hubby crashed the work vehicle and the excess needs to be deducted from his salary but we (more like I!) will cross that bridge when it comes to it. I think that whilst sometime it appears that there is doom & gloom on the site it is generally when people need the most amount of support and during the happier times sometimes we are afraid to share it incase it appears insensitive to other members who are struggling but I think in reality sometimes some positive news from someone else makes you realise that it is just a bad patch and if you hang on you'll get through back to the happier times!

Andy

Did you and Bev treat yourself to anything nice when your IVA was completed? And are you now saving up for anything special?

Can I come to the reunion as well even though I'm not in an IVA?

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

I agree with you all I spend ages planning what im going to do with £700 month to spare in 2012,itl feel like winning the lottery cant wait, but back to reality for now just off to work for another 12hr shift each step is a step closer to being debt free.

Hi Mel
One of the first things that we did post IVA was to go and buy some new clothes !!
We are off to Florida in Jan and for the first time it has been paid for from money saved with no help from credit card or family.
Although we have no personal debts we still have a sizeable mortgage and have to watch the pennies. We are well and truly rehabilitated and infact are looking forward to going to the Toby carvery tomorrow night thanks to a voucher in the Daily Mail allowing a roast and pud for a fiver each !!!
I really am grateful that an IVA has allowed me to learn and recover from my heavy debts[70k]
