Hi all. had a meeting with someone from Jefferson Hobbs this morning.I've been in an iva for nearly a year,and before that debt management for 18 months. initially it was going to be an iva but it failed the first time,however, because of waht i was told to do when the iva failed i felt that i had no option but to go into debt management. my company has since sold it's ivas on to a new company. i have been told that they have put a new clause in which can extend the iva for another year,no questions asked. Jefferson Hobbs have advised me to go bankrupt. why all the anti feeling against them?

The anti feeling is there because they have no idea of your circumstances when they contact you. If you are struggling then your IP should be the first port of call.

If bankruptcy is the right choice for you then you can do it yourself and just pay the court fees. You do not have to pay someone to help you and this company will charge a lot of money for the 'assistance'.

Jan is right. They will charge you a fortune for their services and do nothing that you could not do yourself.

Again as Jan has said, if you are having specific problems then contact your IP firstly. If all seems to be going ok then please don't be drawn in by these people. 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'!

thanks Jan. guess i have to mull things over. i'm now in a job where i can earn overtime (i wasn't when the iva was set up) but i'm a bit loathe to work more and not get it all. i know this is a clause of an iva but who wants to work for nothing?

Is there nothing in your proposal that says you get to keep a certain percentage of it?

None of us will work for nothing. You will normally get to keep at least 50% of any overtime or bonuses you get.

I would give it serious thought. If you really do want bankruptcy and can't face doing it yourself then there are companies who will not charge anywhere near the fees these companies charge.

I would never go with a company that had to approach me in the first place.

i dont think i can keep any bonuses. however i can get to keep the first £94 of overtime and then its 50% over that. overtime is stopping soon anyway i think. it's a shame but may help with the first review?

How long have you been in your IVA bigbopper and what company are you with?

i've been in it 10 months now and its just been taken over by grant thornton from blair endersby who i always found to be good.
