Just had the call to take my details. Would you believe that they expect you to travel up to one hour to work and then back. If your not looking that far afield then they will stop payments to you.
I AM NOT going to travel up to one hour to get to work, complete a 12 hour day of which 9-10 of them will be driving and then to drive an hour back. Are these people who make the rules stupid? They going to pay my fuel to travel that far? dont think so!!!

Those that decide to travel that far for work is up to them. Something I find pointless unless its a very well paid job and re-locating is not a option. but in my line of work I would never be paid enough to travel that far

To be honest I wouldn't work over an hour away from home if I could help it, not with the price of petrol these days. I work 15 minutes from home, and I still end up spending about £100 a month on petrol with my other journeys.
I have a 1 hour journey to work. A brisk 20 minute walk to the train station; 1/2 hour train journey during which I either chat to fellow passengers, read a book/newspaper or have a snooze, followed by a 15min tram journey. I love it!!! Got rid of my car when finances became really tight and don't miss it at all. I'm healthier, less skint and the environment benefits - 3 cheers for public transport!!How much does all this cost, I hear you say? £2 per day - beat that!!!
Well done you-but I would never do that. No job I would do is worth that kind of commuting. Plus the hours I tend to work dont have public transport available.
I used to have a similar journey. 2 mile walk to the station, 40 minute train journey, 15 minute walk the other end. Sometimes I use to drive in, but the M6 into Birmingham is not good!
I now work closer to home, 30 minutes in the car through lovely scenery admiring the deer.
I wouldn't particularly want to do a longer journey again, but if it meant I was in a job, I'd give it a try.

It isn't for me to comment upon the guidelines that the government use, but I do know that in his profession that Steve is absolutely limited by law as to the amount of hours he can work.
I am no real expert on HGV's but I suspect that an hours travelling to his work followed by an hours travelling after would break enough laws to make it unsustainable regardless of what he does.
Still worth claiming though Steve.

It would break all the laws if i did a 12 hour day but only the 12 hours would be recorded on my Tacho, too and from work should be included but never is.
the problem i have is that I have just been called by an ageny to go to work for 2am, which surley means I can now not claim? This is the reason I havnt up to now?
But im not going to turn this wrok down as it is good money and I can have 2-3 days per week with this which is enough to live off but not to pay my debts.
