i am posting after a very long time. i just found out that as me and my husband have a joint account, he is financially linked to me. now this is causing various problems because he tried to open a banck account for himself and they declined saying as i have pulled his credit rating down and my influence on his credit rating is going to be there forever.
what can i do? the reason i went into an IVA alone was to preserve what was left of his credit rating and now i realise we both are affectd by the IVA. he cannot get access to anything now. how can that be?
Your hubby could try the Co-op, there shouldn't be a problem opening one with them.
Your influence on either your credit rating, or his, will not last for ever. It will drop off six years from the date of the IVA.
Do you have anything else joint?

I think your hubby should maybe get any account he can. Take his name off the joint account. Then do disassociation with the credit reference agencies, so you are no longer financially linked. Then he should have no further problems.
His credit rating will not be doomed forever - at worst six years from the date your IVA was accepted - and the filing of the notice of disassociation is a good idea which may reduce this even further.
If you want to keep the account open then remove either one of your names.
