Hi Glen, fully uderstand how the situation you describe feels dire, was treated myself with chemo for cancer in 2000 and am 22 months into an IVA now....can't begin to imagine how I'd have coped with both at the same time.... so firstly, my very best wishes to you and your wife at what has to be a very dificult time.

More practically, Melanie's advice above about re-nogotiating the secured loan seems eminently sensible, and an early discussion with your IP has to be worth a shot as I can't see how they could view your situation anything other than sympathetically and in the interests of all parties agree a variation to enable the IVA to continue succesfully through this dificult time.

As a fellow NHS employee I have on occasion been aware of managers supporting staff through agreeing variations that have had the effect of extending periods of full and half pay beyond those determined by years of service under 'Agenda for Change', specifically for staff in special circumstances. It might be an idea to request a mtg with your organisations HR Director (very few won't agree to this) and ask them whether they can be of any help in this respect. There's no guarantee, but if succesful it might give you a couple of extra months without reduced income.

That all said, the most important thing is your own and your wife's health. Even if everything else fails, the support you can offer to each other and gain from friends and family (and the good folk on this forum) will be of the greatest value. I would once again offer my very best wishes for the best possible outcome.

Martin
