I am in an IVA. It is now in its second year. All through this period I have from time to time receive letters from other IVA companies suggesting they could get me a better deal. I have ignored all of them. However yesterday I received a letter from the IVA Council saying they have been monitoring my IVA and suggest that I may have been miss sold an IVA when other options may have been more appropriate for me and they would like my permission to investigate my IVA. If I agree to let them do so they say I must not tell my IP. Although I am miffed about my IVA and think I could have done better (I am paying 100p in the £, plus IVA fees, plus a share of the equity in my house which my IP says must be sold) I have not complained to anyone. What I would like to know is whether the IVA Council is an official body or is it just another IVA company using a new gambit? Thanks for your help.

They are people targeting the larger IVA firms. If you read on their website, they seem to be aimed more at folks with no assets and "help" them with bankruptcy.
They are very defensive and quite rude on their website postings.
Personally (and its just my opinion) i would throw the letter away and ignore it completely.

Hi Lisa

The answer is yes - type insolvency register into your search engine and the site will come you can then see your name in the register

Oh dear Lisa. Andy has a petition to stop this info being readily avaliable. Fair enough not a lot of people know about the website but this is how these companies are getting the details and being able to send out these letters.

I agree to, it had everything name, adrress, DOB they might aswell leave all my info on a cd and loose it, oh no they've already done that!!!

Seriously though should not be so freely available, i don't want everyone knowing my personal business.

Most people have no need and are not aware of the register, and a lot of us feel there should at least be some restrictions on being able to view it.

Hi
The only other option that The IVA Council will offer is bankruptcy with a linked company for a fee.
Bin it
By the way if you are returning 100p dividend plus the IP fees then you have no need to release equity and your IP can't make you sell your house.
