The problem is Johnt, how many people can actually afford to go and buy a new car, even if it is for £6k or less. I know I couldn't and as much as I don't like my car I know I'm stuck with it regardless of what the government take in taxes. I'm lucky as it is cheap to run as it's only a 1.2 Corsa, but I'm beginning to feel the pinch with petrol. In an ideal world I'd get rid of my car as well, but although I only work 4 miles from home, it's not a safe bike ride and the bus would take me over an hour to do a journey that takes me 15 minutes in the car!

I really don't think that the new 'green taxes' are anything to do with being green. This country is in horrendous debt thanks to a certain chancellor selling our gold reserves among other things, and so they have to recoup the taxes from somewhere, with the motorist being an easy place to start, followed by the householder who doesn't put the lid down on their wheely bin!

I do agree that we have to conserve energy, and I am happy to do my bit by recycling.

I'm sorry if I sound bitter but maybe that's because I am. I have a good job, and therefore I'm taxed left right and centre, but what do I get back for it? Nothing apart from my bins emptied once a fortnight. Crime is on the increase, hospitals are filthy, kids are leaving school unable to read or write so where is all the money going?

Well said Skippy - driving is a necessity not a privilege for the majority of us. I won't go down that route as we've had a thread on the subject before.

I'd like to see the dreaded council tax reduced afterall values of homes have been reduced and the council tax was banded according to house values so why haven't we seen a reduction in council tax?

How about in the back pockets of the Ministers. Where was the restraint on wage increases when Ministers decided they needed a double figure increase? I don't see any Ministers/MPs standing up and saying no thanks I don't wants this increase because my consituents are suffering apalling financial difficulty! My increase this year a whopping £117pa!!! Big deal.
Sunshine at last - it is all over!!!

Skippy, I totally agree with everything you have said! I would love to cycle to work, but it's 12 miles away and just not feasible.

Public transport would take me too long.

As to where the money is going - it's probably all going to fund the expenses for their second homes!!!!!!!!!!

I could cycle now, and I planned to at first but there is nothing to chain my bike to when I get here an someone had theirs stolen. In the winter it would be too dangerous - I'd either have to cycle along the towpath which is quiet and unlit, or down a winding road where there have been a few accidents.

Let's not forget GB, Gordon Brown, one for the "Turds" website i think, just walked into No.10, no one ever elected him to be Prime Menacester, i mean Minister of course. And we are all guilty of letting the Government get away with the things they do.Time we stood up and said no more.

Quite agree Quark - I think Turds could have a field day with him!

I think he will be dragged out of No.10 kicking and screaming when he finally has to have an election. I think it will be at the very last moment as well. He knows there is no way Labour is going to get back in, so he will be hanging on in there.

A friend of ours has always been a Labour supporter (although he did join the local Conservative Club for cheap drinks!), and his father was before him, but he's said there's no way he'll vote Labour again, he's switching to the Conservatives. Blair and Brown have alienated the people who have always supported them with their policies, or lack of.

How about propping up Northern Rock????
Why is the construction industry not being supported? There's a lot of people going to lose their jobs, claiming unemployment/housing benefit etc, more repossessions, more IVA's/Br's....adding more strain on the coffers and increasing loses to the lenders.
Then when the construction starts to pick up, we'll probably be inundated with cheaper, migrant workers.....No win situation really!!!![:(]

And of course, for each industry that is cutting jobs because of lack of orders, there is the knock on effect on the firms that supply them with parts. It's a big domino effect but I think they may be going for the Guinness Book of Records with the length of this one!

I don't think it matters who is in power. They make all these promises before being elected, then renage (renege? not sure on the spelling), on them.

Things might be fine for a few months, but then the rot sets in.
