I'm not a big Labour Supporter, and I believe that many on this forum have hit bad times, live modestly and are reasonably intelligent people.
My main concern is that much of what we read in the press, is very anti-government, simply because it suits them. They like to reflect the public mood. Gun and knife crime is a good example of this.
For any prime minister trying to find the correct balance between saving peoples liberty and saving on fuel is tricky. In fact it's a big conflict of interest.
It's true also that some, but I would assume a minority because of poor public services are at a disadvantage because of the new road tax, by as much as £200. But the majority are not.
This is about changing peoples values, is a complex argument, and relies on the individual to take responsibility, for the benefit of all of us.
I live in an area in the south east where many drive 4x4 utility vehicles and prestige cars. It annoys me that owners of these vehicles some how assume a moral right to drive and behave in the way in which they do because there wealthy.
It's not jealousy, I have a well paid job, its a sense of frustration at the increasing lack of concern for local environment and the local community as a whole.
What was it Margaret Thatcher once said, 'There is no such thing as Society'. Often miss quoted she was referring to moral values belonging to the family (individualism) and the market being something separate.
I believe the two are directly linked. Ideologically this is one of the big differences between traditional left and right. Thatcher, and Tories did and still do reinforce this doctrine.
I believe your actions should benefit people and the community around you, and not yourself.
Despite the negative impact on some of us, Brown has literally had to shoe horn this tax upon us simply because we are unwilling to take responsibility for ourselves.
