Hi All

Really annoys me when I hear people going on about the tories need to be in power, they were for 18 years and our area ended up looking like it had been blitzed. Every service was wrecked, and will be again if all the people praying for a tax get get it, the cash comes from cuts in services. Local Govt is a tory low priority and always will be, I had friends who were miners and they got the chop ASAP under Thatcher, and sadly I attended a number of funerals during those years of friend who committed suicide.

That was the ultimate price to pay, so no I will never want a tory govt again, ever.

Unfortunatly John, I think that's exactly what you are going to get.

I think we are all going to have to accept that we will never agree about this! I am a Conservative voter, always have been and always will be, whereas others will always vote Labour.

One thing I will say is that if the government stopped wasting money left right and centre there could be tax cuts, or if not cuts, at least we could have decent services. Stop paying out extortionate amounts of compensation for hurt feelings, get rid of the managers in hospitals and bring back matrons, let the police do their job without all the red tape and paperwork, let teachers discipline pupils without being told it's against their human rights.

Regardless of whose fault it is, and regardless of who gets into power next, this country will be in recession, and it is going to take years to get out of it again no matter who is in charge.

its the same tory government that allowed junk food in schools rather than proper cooked meals because of cost.doubled vat. put vat on utilities. signed up to putting extra duty on fuel to reduce carbon emissions that this labour government stopped. the tories destroyed manufacturing industry and turned us into a service industry

Skippy, I agree with you 100%. My hubbie is always on his soap box about managers in hospitals and the fact that you have to be so careful what you say and do these days.

Michael, that was then, who knows what will happen in the next government.

Did you see the government want a national database (yes, another one!) with details of any phone calls, emails or text messages we make or send? I'm sorry, but with their track record of keeping data safe! George Orwell was ahead of his time - the only thing he got wrong was the year!

Orwell was also spot on with Animal Farm...

Yes I saw that Skippy. I can't say that I am happy that anyone can check my mail, emails etc. Those are private and I really don't want anyone else being able to see them. OK, they would be boring to anyone else, but the amount of personal information in them must be vast, and if anyone got hold of that............

.............doesn't bear thinking about!

I'm not a big Labour Supporter, and I believe that many on this forum have hit bad times, live modestly and are reasonably intelligent people.

My main concern is that much of what we read in the press, is very anti-government, simply because it suits them. They like to reflect the public mood. Gun and knife crime is a good example of this.

For any prime minister trying to find the correct balance between saving peoples liberty and saving on fuel is tricky. In fact it's a big conflict of interest.

It's true also that some, but I would assume a minority because of poor public services are at a disadvantage because of the new road tax, by as much as £200. But the majority are not.

This is about changing peoples values, is a complex argument, and relies on the individual to take responsibility, for the benefit of all of us.

I live in an area in the south east where many drive 4x4 utility vehicles and prestige cars. It annoys me that owners of these vehicles some how assume a moral right to drive and behave in the way in which they do because there wealthy.

It's not jealousy, I have a well paid job, its a sense of frustration at the increasing lack of concern for local environment and the local community as a whole.

What was it Margaret Thatcher once said, 'There is no such thing as Society'. Often miss quoted she was referring to moral values belonging to the family (individualism) and the market being something separate.

I believe the two are directly linked. Ideologically this is one of the big differences between traditional left and right. Thatcher, and Tories did and still do reinforce this doctrine.

I believe your actions should benefit people and the community around you, and not yourself.

Despite the negative impact on some of us, Brown has literally had to shoe horn this tax upon us simply because we are unwilling to take responsibility for ourselves.

Tony Blair was one of Maggie's biggest supporters!! Says a lot about Labour if they allowed an avid Thatcherite to lead the party and govern the UK for such a long time......
I do think that Gordon Brown has inherited alot of problems, which he has made worse by the way he has dealt with them...dithering and wavering like he has!
I've always said that WHOEVER is in government, they target the most vunerable and easiest to get the most from. Like I said before, unless you have a good accountant, they expect you to cough up, pay up and shut up......
It's nice to be back......

Someone suggested that we should have the option to vote for 'none of the above'. Don't really know if that would be feasible but can you imagine all of the politician's faces if the 'NOTA' party won the majority??? lol

I think Blair admired her political style, but not her basic political principles.

The general quality of life for the majority has greatly improved in the last ten years, and now it's under threat, not least because of global recession, were beginning to realise that we may be taking it forgranted.

Blair had no principles, political or otherwise!

I'm obviously in the minority as my quality of life has only improved because I moved to a nicer area!
