Well today is the day that my last payment has left the bank after 6 years!!! I survived redundancy by managing to get 2 part time jobs and kept my payments the same. Had to do 12 month extension in place of re-mortgage - now down to DFD and EIF to see how long I have to wait for CC. It's been 18 months already with EIF so how much longer is anybody's guess.
Keep going everyone there is a light at the end of the tunnel - looking back the time has flown by but I've been living in dread of something happening and I'm made bankrupt. Lets see when I get my CC

Hi, well done on making that last payment, it certainly doesn't sound like you had the easiest journey but you are now debt free.

Hopefully you'll have that CC very soon.

Enjoy your debt free future. x

Thank u everyone - just got an email from DFD - they will take up to 28 working days to check all creditors have claimed etc and I've paid what was agreed - then it will take up to 8 months to close - We will see with that as I've just had a LOA from EIF for me to sign even though they've been working on my case for the last 18 months and some have just gone to the ombudsman !!! Lets see how long this takes !

Eight months to close a case! Why is it going to take so long - surely any PPI claims can be assigned to the IP rather than delaying your completion?

Yes Mel I was surprised at the length of time quoted by them - they said

"The closure process can take up to 8 months to complete then you will be issued your CC. A review for miss sold PPI is also part of this closure and will be completed during this time"

Seeing as though EIF have been looking at my PPI for the last 18 months I do wonder how long it will actually be ????

Well done KM1512 that's really great news - hope you get your CC soon x

Great news for you Joowoo , well done for getting to this point and keeping going in the face of adversity. You have found the light at the end of the tunnel when at times I am sure it seemed the bulb had blown!! Hopefully it won't take as long as 8 months to get your CC!

That is a very long time to close a case, especially if they have already spent the last 18 months investigating any PPI mis-selling claims, but in reality there is not much you can probably do about this apart from asking to be provided with regular progress updates.
